I think it's ok to still cheer for some teams that aren't fully mercenary.
If that is the case, Texas is who everyone needs to win again. Tech has completely bought their team while Texas best players are mostly Whites recruites. Altmeyer is really the only one who is a starter and she is a grad transfer. Tech winning is bad for softball.

I have a hard time believing that A&M spent over 4 million on softball players.
That list is just "school spending" - scholarships, room/board, academic services, nutrition, training, coaching salaries, travel, equipment, facility maintenance, marketing/promotions, you can even have some facility depreciation, etc. None of that number is NIL. Every school includes and excludes different things, so the numbers are generally not particularly comparable between schools.

tu and tech have the best combination of pitching and hitting. UCLA had the hitting but only one pitcher. Tennessee had the pitching but didn't have the hitters. Alabama had a good combination but could beat Tech.

It was interesting hearing the response, both at the time of the play and throughout the evening, from the announcers when discussing the play. I'm not sure I"ve ever heard announcers of a female sport go so hard against an athlete. Guess Title IX finally caught up in the booth.
She certainly could have made a stronger jump, but playing the ball and fence in an unfamiliar stadium has certainly led to plays like this in the past.
I'd say that's not characteristic of Alabama softball if you've watched them play under Murphy.

Correct, except it might also contain the school-supported NIL $ which will be pretty small for softball. Each school is allowed $20.5M direct to athletes across all sports, A&M is supporting six sports with this.
NIL from Texas Aggies United, Matador Club, etc. are NOT in those numbers. This is where majority of athlete $ comes from.

After always getting stomped by OU breaking through last year was a blast. I wouldn't be too upset if Texas ended up returning the favor.

The rough expected breakdown is:
Football 75%
MBB 15%
Other four sports (Baseball, WBB, VB, Softball) 10%
So, if those 4 sports were splitting the 10% equally (which is probably high for softball), that would be roughly $500,000 for softball.
Remember the 1st 2.5 million of that cap goes to the additional scholarships. So only 18 mil goes toward rev share to players.

Trish made a comment around HS signing day that they are competitive with NIL. IIRC, it sounded like this was a new thing. Also, it didn't sound like we had the budget to outbid other programs, but we could be competitive enough so that money wasn't the deciding factor.

It's why High School recruiting is so important in a sport that doesn't have unlimited money for NIL. It's why the Horns will be in the mix for the foreseeable future. They have Kavan again next year, the True Freshman Wells who's already seen action and they already have the number 1 pitching recruit from 2024 that transferred from OU but couldn't play til next season. You have to hit on high school players especially pitchers.

The majority of the teams in all sports that win at a high level get star transfers now.
A&M Tennis and Volleyball do the same. What Tech did is fine. I doubt they find another Cadady anytime soon.

Most teams. Go ahead and look at the Texas Softball startimg roster. All but Altmeyer , a grad transfer, were recruited and signed by White out if high school.. They won't be able to say that next year but recruits won this National Championship not hired guns.
