When it first opened with the dead bats, pitchers could just groove fastballs, knowing it would take 3 singles to score a run. The game should be balanced. Meatballs to power hitters should disappear.

I can agree with that. I just don't like seeing quarter swing oppo home runs and realize that is a minority opinion
I have no idea how people intentionally, willfully, even joyfully watch this non-sport garbage on ESPN (PTI now, same applies to Finebaum, and many others...). It's just an absolute beating. What happened to just showing highlights of, ya know, sports? This is the equivalent of MTV not showing videos the last 30 years. Blows my mind that people enjoy any of this.

My main reason for asking why did they start him. Not bc he's an opener or whatever. But more, why start him if you are not going to at least let him pitch unless he's off. The first guy only got on bc 1st messed up. No hard hits.

I don't know if the runner thought he missed 3rd or not...that would be the only possible explanation that would even begin to make sense for not going home. I wish there had been another angle to see where his foot was when he got to third. It looked closer to missing the bag than I originally thought.
