Good catch.

A little sous vide and Saturday night's dinner was spectacular.

Does Texas Monthly do the top 50 BBQ every year, or was that just a one time thing? The reason I as is my 14yo daughter's best friend's father has a hole-in-the-wall bbq joint in Beasley, Texas (40 min south of Houston, 15 min south of Sugar Land) called the BBQ Barn. A few days ago, a guy came in and ordered ribs and some brisket to go. He came back 30 min later and asked who was the cook, and what else is good. He sat and ate some chicken, two kinds of sausage, and another thing or two. The owner had just gotten back from a funeral, and went to meet the guy at the table since he asked about the cook. The guy said he was a writer for Texas Monthly, took some pics, and said he would come back in a couple of weeks for an interview.
I believe I read this as well. Pretty disappointed with the last list, though - they shook things up a lot, but left Louie Mueller in the top ten. We've discussed this here before, but I have had countless better BBQ meals than my visit to LM. Killen's, Black's, Pecan Lodge, the Pit Room, and Valentina's, to name five that spring to mind and aren't in the top ten.Quinn said:
Think TM has said that they are going to start doing the list every two to three years from now on.
I've been to every single place you mentioned and haven't had a better bbq meal at any of them than I have at LM, but to each their own! Valentina's and Killen's did come close though.Bryan98 said:I believe I read this as well. While I agree with you that LM doesn't deserve top 10 status, I think Black's and Pecan Lodge are both incredibly over rated and not even deserving of top 50 any more. PL went way downhill after they moved. Black's is just mediocre bbq in the FORMER bbq capital of Texas. Enter CDub to disagree with me on LM and Black's...Quote:

It's possible that I've been to LM on an off day as well, 15 times...ha. My in-laws live in Taylor and I've given it so many tries. Brisket on a stick is about the only thing worth going for IMO.Quote:
It's possible my one trip to Louie Mueller was an off day, but none of us liked the brisket at all. Like, worse than some mall BBQ.

I've been to Killen's at least half a dozen times and it's been great all but once.
I'm not holding Black's up as a top ten place, it isn't, it's just better than my trip to Louie Mueller. Also, I was at Black's in January and it was the best meal I've ever had there. I've been four or five times now.
I disagree...Diggity said:
it's almost like opinions vary when it comes to things like food!
I remember the first time I cut a rack of ribs too.Koldus131 said:
This was my tray when I went to Black's in Lockhart in July. The sausage was the best thing I ate. Asked for fatty brisket. I was bummed

Oh look, another blacks and LM debate, we haven't had enough of those yet.
