Live near Tejas and have been 4 times. Haven't been impressed so maybe it's just you and me.
If you go through the pages of this thread you will see people who enjoyed, and people who also did not enjoy, several places on the top 10. This comparison stuff is like ford vs. chevy.Here4Beer said:jja79 said:

Definitely just you two. I live close to Tejas as well and go about once a month and always love it and their consistency.

And Black's Barbecue in Lockhart is one of the finest barbecue spots in the state.

Agreed. Someone needs to come in second behind Dallas.

I know 2nd to Dallas is a joke but I will say that Cattleack BBQ is the best BBQ place I've been to. I haven't been to Snows or Franklins but been to a lot of other places and they're phenomenal.

Cattlelack is great, but so is 2M - that doesn't mean San Antonio is in the running for best BBQ city.
We are absolutely spoiled in Houston with the bbq scene that has arisen. Plus they brand themselves well. Everyone in Houston needs to go to a Houston BBQ Throwdown - it's a fantastic time and will leave you with pride in the local bbq culture.
I still think Austin holds the barbecue crown simply because of the concentration of bbq joints.

Completely agree. I'm hoping that culture grows in Dallas. If I want great BBQ and it's not Thursday or Friday at lunch, I'm really only left with standing in line at Pecan Lodge. We need more high quality options.

Get your butt up to Hutchins in Mckinney. They are better than Pecan Lodge at all times imo. Not the most "trendy" and exotic bbq locations, just damn good. They aren't trying to by like Todd at Cattleack with Wagyu Pastrami beef ribs and stuff, but I went at 4:30 PM last week for an early dinner and the brisket was still perfect. Just blows me away at the consistency.

If you have three good places, you are doing pretty good for a city. The Metroplex has Cattleack, Hutchins, Heim and Pecan Lodge, then a solid round of "B Grade" places with Ten50, Lockharts, Meat-U-Anywhere. On top of that, no matter where you are in the Metroplex you are never far from a solid "C Grade" place like Hard 8, Rudy's, Smoke, or Three Stacks.
Knowing that I would put the metroplex up against Houston as #2 in the State behind Austin, but I am biased because I think Houston is a **** hole.
I was there a couple months ago. Was a little disappointing compared to previous visits. Brisket was dry and had less smoke. Ribs were dry too.CDub06 said:
Speaking of Dallas, it's been a while since I've been to Slow Bone. I kind of got side-eyed recently when I was talking to someone about them. They knocked it out of the park when I've been in the past.
Any of y'all been recently?

That's great that you have some good bbq places spread out over the 20 or so counties of the metroplex, but how many of those are actually in Dallas?
Just inside the loop in Houston, we have Pit Room, Pinkertons, Feges, and soon(maybe) we will have Truth. Just outside the loop is Roegels and Gatlins(which is hit or miss, but when they are on they are great), and Tejas, Corkscrew and Killens aren't much further.
