Pretty good list only difference IMO on Beef Ribs would be adding Mueller

Corkscrew is #1 and Tejas #2 for me in the Houston metro area with Pit Room not far behind.

My last stop at Truth was a letdown as well. I got the El Jefe but with beef garlic sausage which was a mistake.

Need to get down to Greenway and try Feges soon.

Live near Tejas and have been 4 times. Haven't been impressed so maybe it's just you and me.

Wow. Tejas is neck & neck with a couple of others for my favorite in Houston. I've never been disappointed myself.

And the best Pulled Pork in Houston? Nay, the World? Corkscrew.

A "warning" about Feges:

If you get the boudin, eat it last. The taste is so strong it over powers everything. I'm not saying don't get it, just eat the brisket first.

Definitely just you two. I live close to Tejas as well and go about once a month and always love it and their consistency.

I'll have to try Corkscrew and compare them to the others - at the moment Killens pulled pork is tops for me.

Also, I haven't been to Muellers as well.

I recognize it is all subjective, but I guess I'm just pretty particular about BBQ and what I like - esp when it comes to high end BBQ. For example, I can have some brisket frim Pit Room as is, without giving one thought to adding sauce (even though their bourbon sauce and regular sauce is pretty good).

However what I found at Tejas (among other places) is that I was trying to help the brisket with some sauce - and even then it wasnt great imo.

To each his own.

If you go through the pages of this thread you will see people who enjoyed, and people who also did not enjoy, several places on the top 10. This comparison stuff is like ford vs. chevy.

Agreed. Someone needs to come in second behind Dallas.

I know 2nd to Dallas is a joke but I will say that Cattleack BBQ is the best BBQ place I've been to. I haven't been to Snows or Franklins but been to a lot of other places and they're phenomenal.

From someone in Dallas....hahahaha.

That being said, Cattleack is seriously legit!

EDIT: Didn't see your post Oregon. I've been to all three and they are right up there with the top 2 IMO. Brisket and ribs were phenomenal. Sausage was OK, but it's sausage so who really cares. I think TM got the top 3 right for sure.

In a hurry for dinner and decided to go to Rudy's.

We always joke on this thread that anything worse than Rudy's is bad BBQ and anything better is good BBQ as Rudy's is the definition of average.

Tonight was bad. Brisket was dry and off color. Like something you would get in Chicago that would misadvertnly be called BBQ. Even the corn tasted old.

The ham was spot on. Weird.

I've had some decent meals at Rudy's. Have not been there in over a year. This was one of the worst visits.
RAM700BA

Anytime I go to Rudy's I just get sausage and a chopped beef sandwich. Pretty hard to mess those up.

The one time I ordered meat by the pound the brisket wasn't terrible, but the ribs were white and tough. Like they boiled them or something then put them in the smoker for 5 min to get a slight smoke taste to them. I never made that mistake again.

Ha. I was waiting on someone to bite the troll so I could then respond that Cattleack, in my humble opinion, is the best in the state. Pecan Lodge is still good but not quite what it used to be. After that quality starts slipping quickly.

Central Texas is king when it comes to BBQ. I need to try more of the newer Houston places though as I hear great things. DFW is unfortunately a clear third, at best, as far as metropolitan areas in Texas go.

Cattlelack is great, but so is 2M - that doesn't mean San Antonio is in the running for best BBQ city.

We are absolutely spoiled in Houston with the bbq scene that has arisen. Plus they brand themselves well. Everyone in Houston needs to go to a Houston BBQ Throwdown - it's a fantastic time and will leave you with pride in the local bbq culture.

I still think Austin holds the barbecue crown simply because of the concentration of bbq joints.

If you have three good places, you are doing pretty good for a city. The Metroplex has Cattleack, Hutchins, Heim and Pecan Lodge, then a solid round of "B Grade" places with Ten50, Lockharts, Meat-U-Anywhere. On top of that, no matter where you are in the Metroplex you are never far from a solid "C Grade" place like Hard 8, Rudy's, Smoke, or Three Stacks.

Knowing that I would put the metroplex up against Houston as #2 in the State behind Austin, but I am biased because I think Houston is a **** hole.

Completely agree. I'm hoping that culture grows in Dallas. If I want great BBQ and it's not Thursday or Friday at lunch, I'm really only left with standing in line at Pecan Lodge. We need more high quality options.

Speaking of Dallas, it's been a while since I've been to Slow Bone. I kind of got side-eyed recently when I was talking to someone about them. They knocked it out of the park when I've been in the past.

Any of y'all been recently?

I've been in the last few months. Had the brisket, ribs, and chicken. The chicken was the best. Ribs were ok, but brisket was a little dry. IMO Slow Bone is just a notch above a place like Rudy's.

Get your butt up to Hutchins in Mckinney. They are better than Pecan Lodge at all times imo. Not the most "trendy" and exotic bbq locations, just damn good. They aren't trying to by like Todd at Cattleack with Wagyu Pastrami beef ribs and stuff, but I went at 4:30 PM last week for an early dinner and the brisket was still perfect. Just blows me away at the consistency.

Seconded. Hutchins is my 2nd favorite in the Metroplex. Even at dinner, they're knocking it out of the park. The brisket is A+

That's great that you have some good bbq places spread out over the 20 or so counties of the metroplex, but how many of those are actually in Dallas?

Just inside the loop in Houston, we have Pit Room, Pinkertons, Feges, and soon(maybe) we will have Truth. Just outside the loop is Roegels and Gatlins(which is hit or miss, but when they are on they are great), and Tejas, Corkscrew and Killens aren't much further.

I was there a couple months ago. Was a little disappointing compared to previous visits. Brisket was dry and had less smoke. Ribs were dry too.

Wish Hutchin's was closer to my office.

I agree. I've been to both locations at different times in the day and it's been consistently good. Not at the Cattleack level of good, but better than Pecan Lodge, which IMO has gone downhill quickly with the newer location. Think they sold out to quantity/revenues over consistency/quality. Can't blame them though because it's not far from my office and they have no competition. They have to be killing it.

I wish I had a dollar for every ****ing time some dip**** from the arm pit of texas goes off about Houston proper...

We get it your actual city is the size of Hawaii. You also don't have zoning and it looks like ***** We apologize for having proper city planning up here and cities spread out over 5 counties....

(Please note there is a ton of sarcasm in this post, I have nothing but admiration for the people of the fine city of Houston )

I've always assumed Lubbock. Although Beaumont could be in contention.
