Texas Monthly BBQ Fest tickets went on sale this morning. We're not going to be able to hang around for the Sunday event, but we are going to the Franklin and Friends dinner Saturday night.

Just got 4 to Franklin and Friends. Thanks for the heads up.

Off topic, but this is where the knowledge is located. What are the three best BBQ joints in Memphis? No tourist traps please.
Speaking of Memphis and tourist traps...Corky's is coming to TX. Starting in Houston in 2018 and if they do well they're hoping to have locations in DFW by 2020. Not sure how they're going to do though. They better market their product as "memphis" bbq or they're going to get smoked...pun intended.

Can't really find anything that explains what F & F is. Is it an after party?

Anyone know what goes on at F&F? 125 per ticket they better be giving out some cool things other than just the food.

Based on the Hot Luck event we went to at Franklin last month, here is what I am expecting.

Big ass plate of BBQ from Franklin (you can go back for more but don't really need to)
All you can eat from other pitmasters there
Some random beef ribs floating around on trays
Unlimited drinks
The small Yeti cup
Not a 3 hour line

I've been googling, but can't where to get tickets, although I have learned that there is a cartoon featuring a turtle named Franklin and his friends

From the event description...

"FRANKLIN & FRIENDS
Saturday, November 3 / 6-9 p.m.
Franklin Barbecue
Join us for the first-ever Texas Monthly BBQ Fest Franklin & Friends event, hosted by James Beard Winner Aaron Franklin. He'll be smokin' alongside another renowned Texas pitmaster, as well as two celebrated out-of-state pitmasters. There will be live-fire cooking, cold beer, and an experience unlike any other."

Sounds pretty awesome. I snagged two tickets earlier this evening.

BBQFest is on opening day of deer season.

Count me out. Is it always on the first weekend of November?

Headed to Snows. Left the house at 7:30 with the wife. Should be there at 8:30 or so.

Edit: got in line at 8:30. It was probably 100 deep keeping fingers crossed I make it. Just got my number. 119.

Edit 2. Made it in the door at 10:30. Only thing they ran out of was chicken. Got brisket, ribs, pork shoulder, little turkey and some sausage. Some to eat in and some to go. The brisket was amazing. I think Fargos ribs are better but I think theirs are the best I have ever had too.

Edit 3. We didn't eat the pork shoulder there. Just got some to go. And I just got home and had a bite. I'm going to probably cause a fight. I think that's the star of the show. That's spectacular.

Rolled up to Reveille Barbecue Co. In Magnolia at 10:50am. First in line. One other guy showed up by 11:00. A bbq friend of mine showed up after opening, ordered immediately. We just left - no line.

Why am I going on about this? Because this was fantastic barbecue with no wait! They're open on the weekends and they nailed every meat.

Brisket, ribs, sausage, pastrami. We skipped the beef rib. Even the sides were good - shi****o peppers & elote.

I might have more thoughts later, but I was impressed. A- bbq with no line in MoCo!

Edit: Y'all just want pictures anyway.

Just tried The Pit BBQ in San Angelo. Best brisket for miles. Got there about 10 mins before they closed and could tell they had been 'holding' the meat for a bit but I'd still give it a thumbs up.

Guess Family is incredible. I need to make another trip up there to check in and try Honky Tonk Kid - I've had some exchanges with him on twitter. Cool menu & it all looks good.

Yes it is good and they're real nice people.

I've also eaten at Bubba's Smokehouse on the other side of town and it's been good as well.

I'm in Midland/Odessa and unfortunately it's not a good place for BBQ. Best I've eaten within an hour from here is Pody's in Pecos. They made the Texas Monthly list last year.

Not Texas BBQ, but ate at Rodney Scott's yesterday in Charleston. Got pulled pork, ribs, and chicken wings. Pork was dry, ribs were good but not great, and the chicken wings were the best part. For a James Beard winning chef, I expected a lot more.

Lewis BBQ is the must do there! That's John Lewis, former la Barbecue pitmaster.

I had planned on doing Lewis but ended up going to Rodney's as a last minute 2nd lunch before heading to the airport. Next trip will for sure be going to Lewis. Not sure what he did to win the James Beard, because it was nothing special, but maybe by South Carolina standards it is.

Seeking advice from the BBQ geniuses on this thread. Taking my boys on a 3 day trip to Austin to eat 3 top 10 BBQs. Planning on hitting Franklin on Friday, Snow's on Saturday, and Micklethwait on Sunday.

What time would you recommend we try to get in line? And what are the must eat's at each? Assuming the brisket at Franklin and pork steaks at Snow's.

First, skip Micklethwait and go to La Barbecue instead.

As for ordering, get everything at Franklin except the turkey, and at Snow's get everything but the turkey and also the chicken is good but isn't a necessity.

Order more brisket than anything else, and you'll be good to go. Also make sure you get at least a little bit of lean at Franklin. They have the best lean brisket out there.

Brisket everywhere. No way would I skip that at any place.

I second skipping Micklethwait. I like it but LABBQ is much much better. Terry Blacks is open for dinner and they wouldn't be a bad spot to hit up also.

I'm thinking 7 at Franklin and Snows. Thoughts?

630 would be better for Snow's. They open at 8. You could also grab some Louie Mueller on Saturday...

Skipping the turkey at Franklin is a mistake. I don't care for turkey that much, but his is great.
Koldus131

I agree it's great, but at the end of the day for me it's still turkey. Maybe get a 1/4 pound, but I want more room for brisket
CDub06
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yeah, if you're investing that much time waiting at Franklin, there's no reason to skip anything.

Stopped yesterday for the beef rib. Got there a little before noon, no line, and maybe 5 people sitting there eating. Beef rib was incredible, and everything else was very good as well. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture because we were in a bit of a rush, but I'd definitely recommend it

Awesome. It's stupid good for a spot that has No Line!!

The Pitmaster still works Tejas during the week. They're working to get into the old crossfit building across the parking lot. That means A/C and sweet tea.

The lines are a-comin'.
NotGibbs
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agreed. We were talking to the guy who does the pit masters tattoos, and he was telling us about the stuff you mentioned. I also asked them how the lines have been since the podcast came out a week or two ago, and they mentioned they're getting more people every single day. If anyone wants to go, I'd recommend doing it sooner than later
