Ill be in Wimberley this weekend and may consider going into lockhart sunday for BBQ. Where should I go and how long should I expect to wait?

It's crap bbq so there shouldn't be much of a wait anywhere. If I had to eat at one of them it would be Black's for the food. Smitty's has best atmosphere. Really cool place.

For real? That's disappointing. I saw Black's had an A+ w/ cdub.

Smitty's. Very little wait, if any.

Been to Black's three times now: first was really, really good; next two were just average. Smitty's hasnt ever impressed me in the 5 or so times I've been. Kreuz was pretty good the one time I went. I guess what I'm saying is its mostly a tossup except for smitty's in my experience.

You wont have to wait long at any of them.

I'm a huge fan of Black's. I've probably been 4-5 times as well. Though, admittedly it's been a while since my last visit. Every time I have been, it's been top notch. The fatty brisket is some of the best in the state.

Kreuz is classic. Good brisket, good clod, good ribs. The sausage is fantastic - duh.

Smittys - meh.

Smitty's has the best atmosphere/feel and good sausage, outside of that it is a giant bag of nothing.

I also like Black's BBQ the best, but I haven't been in about 2 years.

Austin Barbecue questions:

Has anyone been to the new la Barbecue location? Curious how they're doing and if the lines are still long. My sister & BIL are headed to Austin next weekend and want to go somewhere without crazy lines. I was going to suggest Stiles Switch, Vera's, and Teri Black's. Any other thoughts?

I'd make the short drive to Blanco and hit Old 300 BBQ. They under the radar but pretty good BBQ. Their brisket is very good and on weekends also offer
Akaushi brisket Along with their standard Prime brisket. It's also Aggie owned.

I thought Micklethwait's was awesome both times I went but it's been a couple years since my last visit. Brisket was outstanding and the jalapeno/cheese grits were amazing as well and I don't even like grits.

Honestly I think the only reason to go to Lockhart is to say you've been to Lockhart, but I'm very confident you'll leave thinking it was incredibly over rated no matter what place you visit. With the bbq revolution that's happened over the last decade or so (sprecifically in Austin area) there's so many bbq joints that are better than lockhart. Lockhart has the history but they're no longer the "bbq capital of Texas" in my opinion.

Went to La BBQ a handful of months ago... yes line still gets long but not franklin's long. I got in line maybe at 1030 and ate at 1130 or noon?

Food was excellent. Had franklins a few weeks ago, will try Micklethwait next time im in town.

I've had Micklethwait before and really enjoyed it, but I had a long wait to actually get the food once ordered (30+ min). I'm willing to wait, but my sister isn't the patient type.

Same thing for me both times I went. Line wasn't terrible but they were pretty slow getting the food out. Their sausage (knockwurst) was probably the best I've had. Forgot about that when I posted about them earlier.

Sad, but true.

Smitty's was amazing in it's day.

Stiles Switch isn't very consistent, so you run the risk of them getting average bbq. Terry Black's IMO is the best place if you're looking for convenience and great bbq. Also, I would throw Kerlin BBQ in there if you're looking for great bbq with no line. However, parking at Kerlin is a *****.

Here is a sneak preview of them (notice which ones have sauce in the picture).

Terry Black's:

Kerlin BBQ: (corn isn't in season right now)

Stiles Switch: (needed every drop of sauce for that "moist" brisket)

Yes definitely a longer wait than what's I've heard is the usual. Got here at 7:50 and was told we should have food by 10ish. Looking accurate so far

You could alway pre order La BBQ just email them 5 days in advance. The lines probably an hour long if you get there early but was wrapped around the building by the time I ate. It was amazing still though. I would also suggest Valentinas. Its a little far south but its incredible and no line.

We went to La on a Sunday and got there about 1045 (opened at 11). We were prob #10 in line and in/our very quickly. It was also incredible

Pit Room for me this weekend. Solid as always.

We ended up going the non traditional meal route though - 3 different Tacos w/2 sides (elotes and charred green beans) & Loaded Frito Pie.

Loved it. Granted, I've never been to the top 50 places other than Cooper's and McMIllian's in Fannin but I thought it was really well done. Marbled brisket was tender and tasty and the sausage was ok. Wife liked this chicken a lot too. The winner for me was the pork rib though. Easily the best I've ever had.

How did it compare to old Smoliks? Debating if I should even try them.
