Field-wide, Valhalla was 254 shots easier than the next easiest PGA championship. That is insane.

I doubt you see the tourney ever return there. Between the terrible ingress/egress to the course, the weather in Louisville that time of year, and the Scottie situation. Valhalla probably is on the bottom of the future list of hosts.
Yep that cop cost the city 10s of millions in future revenue.

I think there is just a big gap in understanding of what makes courses challenging for pros. It isn't length or high rough. Its a huge amount of uncertainty where balls run off to, tight lies, and tough greens. Which are all conditions that pros complain are "unfair".

Though no one should ever listen to a pro on what they think as it relates to set up or equipment since they have a very vested interest in making it favorable for themselves.

Would love for sand traps to actually be traps and not targets again.

There are some very simple changes that could be made that would create a more challenging environment, but as mentioned...the elite pro golfers have a lot of influence and they don't want to see that.

To me, seeing Bubba wrap it around a tree, Phil get out of the pine straw, Tiger rope one around and run up the fairway looking for the result, pro's having to hit different types of shots to get out of tough areas and scramble when out of position is WAY more dramatic and fun than 320 into deep rough, followed up by a mid - iron aimed right for a soft, perfectly raked bunker that allows for an easy up and down for par.

Increase the spin rate on the ball and more courses become relevant again.

Valhalla was already off the future list of hosts because it is no longer owned by the PGA of America. The only reason it hosted PGA Championships & a Ryder Cup is that it was owned by the PGA of America until 2022. Same reason that PGA Frisco is scheduled to host a PGA & likely a Ryder Cup. When you run the events, you get to pick where they are held, no matter how undeserving in certain instances.
