I'm looking for tickets to "O". Is it better to buy them online, or is there somewhere in Vegas that it would be cheaper/easier to buy them from?

Sorry to reply late, hope you haven't already left for Vegas. "O" is going to be the most expensive Cirque show out there, tickets will probably run you about $125 a pop.

You can try to get them at one of the half-price ticket places, but I don't know they'll have too many. Honestly, if I were you I would probably suck it up and buy them online just to ensure you have them.

Excalibur is fine. It's cheap. No bells or whistles but it'll get the job done. I'm the type of person that likes a cheap room because I won't be in there much though.

I wouldn't gamble at Excalibur though, that's just me. I think their house rules are terrible. Take the short walk over to Tropicana if you play $5 blackjack tables like me.

Anyone ever stay at the Green Valley Ranch Resort??? How was the hotel-- rooms, pool, restaurants, etc. Same for casino...

The wife and I are staying there in June. I've always stayed either on the strip or downtown and concerned about transportation to shows... can't confirm whether GVR has a shuttle to the strip or not...

Thanks in advance

Green Valley is a cool place. Should be at least a little less busy than the Strip casinos.

I've been to the pool and it's nice (but it's been a while so I can't really give details). And the restaurants are fine. Similar to Red Rock Casino (since it's owned by the same company). I am not sure about a shuttle to the Strip, however. I hope they have something because taxis that far could cost you a pretty penny.

Ever watched The Hangover? It looked like a pretty cool drive on there.

But really.....never done it, but I've heard that during peak times near the weekend that drive in from LA can be tough with the roads so packed.

I think it's a pretty boring drive, personally. You do pass an exit for Zzyzx in California. That's exciting. If you need to stop for food or a break, I usually stop in Barstow in California.

From Vegas you're basically just staying on I-15 the whole time. So you just head straight south out of the city. You'll pass Primm, which is a "town" about 30 minutes south of Vegas. It's got three casinos and an amusement park, all owned by Terrible's. There is an outlet mall there too. It's right at the Nevada/California border. Then it's just more driving.

EDIT: I should add...
Traffic will be at its worst into Vegas before the weekends or out of Vegas just at the end of the weekend.
You will have to stop at a checkpoint as you enter California. I have never had them actually search my car or even so much as bother to look at me, but I suppose it is a possibility.

I'm headed up there in early Dec to run the marathon. I'm leaning towards Luxor or Excalibur for the rooms since they are cheap and the race start and finish are at Mandalay.

The wife and I aren't huge gamblers (mainly because I hate losing money) so is there anything else to do during the day?

Here is the probable schedule.

Get in Friday night or Sat morning (9:30 flight) have all day Sat,
Sunday morning is free, but not too much walking around.
Marathon Sunday night,
Monday - leave late in the day OR if there is stuff to do, Tuesday.

So, for a couple that doesn't gamble, won't really club (well maybe Sunday night) and won't drink a whole lot...what should we look into?

If you like nature, you can head west out to Red Rock. There's a 7 mile scenic drive and lots of hiking (December may not be the best time, I suppose).

Skiing and snowboarding are available in December on Mt Charleston, a short drive north of Vegas.

Other random things:
Tour of the Neon Museum
See the Ethel M Chocolate Factory
Tons of shopping, of course
Spend the day in a spa
There's a zoo, but I wouldn't recommend it
The Bellagio has an art gallery
Take a trip to the Hoover Dam
Madame Tussauds is in the Venetian
I think there may be a new Mob Museum, don't know if it's open yet
Take a day trip down to the west side of the Grand Canyon and see the Skywalk http://www.grandcanyonskywalk.com/

Thanks for those. Where exactly is Red Rock? I was looking on google maps and it didn't seem to come up.

Any shows anyone would recommend? Something "girly" would be ok i guess, since the rest of the trip is really for me, might as well do something for my wife.

Good suggestion by CDub. Especially if she likes Beatles music. If you're considering any of the stuff I mentioned, you may want to rent a car. It will (a) be much easier and (b) be MUCH cheaper than a cab.

I 2nd Red Rock.

I live on the west side and try to go out out there every weekend. Amazing place. Ofcourse we are starting to get the 100 degree heat again....so id suggest Mt Charleston area for great hiking and better temps

Perhaps that will restore its sticky status.

I'm making my first trip to Vegas in about a month with a couple buddies. I've read through the thread, but wanted to see if anyone had more up to date suggestions on things to do. We're looking to see a Cirque show, but i don't know too much of a difference between most of them. I saw they had decent tickets to KA, but wonder if it's worth it to spend nearly twice as much to see "O"?

TIA
texasaggie04

Personally, I think it's worth the extra money. Ka was cool but O is just amazing. But I'm a fan of acrobatics, and there are so many more things the performers can do when they land in water.

Ka has a lot more capoeira / martial arts for its performance.

I can't remember if I ever posted on this thread before, but...

O is amazing. First Cirque show I ever saw, and I can't imagine another ever living up to it. Was on the 7th row with an "obstructed view" (I couldn't see a tiny sliver of stage right) - $187.50 each for me and the wife.

Worth every penny.

Going to see Zumanity in November. No huge desire to see it, but booked at Luxor for a conference that week and got 2 free tickets for staying 3 nights...and that was the only show available on the night my wife will be with me.

Zumanity is just ok. If you are looking for something similar but much, much better check out Absinthe. It just got extended for a year.
BTHOthatguy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Bulldog they are all great just steer clear of Chris Angel and you will be fine.

LOVE is actually my favorite, but you have to like the Beatles.

I would not hesitate to see Ka over O. Trust me you will be blown away by Ka if you have never seen Cirque.

Thanks BTHO, I know Vegas isn't the town to go cheap in, but I do have to go on a budget so somethings will have to be sacrificed somewhere.
