I would like to see some of the expert numbers guys ( DallasAg? ) show us how his first innings go. He's gets hurt alot so being a closer would help that I think.

Good for the Dodgers. Although I don't think any of us would complain if we lost to them in the World Series. I'd take that.

If I had to guess Chris Martin will get the first opportunity to be the closer
He has two good pitches and one pitch that can be really good if he is giving it max effort. Great attribute for a late inning reliever. I think he has that bulldog mentality too. He just didn't have enough good pitches to be good 2 and 3 times through the otder.alvtimes said:Danny Vermin said:

He looked good in the pen during the playoffs in 2023 and seemed to enjoy being able to let it fly. I'd like to see him in the pen. Concern is starter depth with so many guys likely on an innings count. Saw an article the other day about the Rangers maybe using a 6 man rotation but it was behind a paywall.
MLBPA is probably in favor of ways to get around the cap even if it is deferred. They can point to the big numbers.

I've come to accept that it will never happen. Pitchers are stuck in loving their 5-day routine too much, and the roster limitations won't allow it unless one of your 6 SPs is also an everyday player like Ohtani.cmiller00 said:

Every team floats doing it and I don't think I've seen any team do it other than LAA with Ohtani.
Yeah probably right. If you have Leiter and Dunning in the pen as multiple innings guys who can also spot start probably works better anyway.

As I pieced this together and had read the Dodgers looked at Yates before settling on Scott.. I told myself "there is nothing to keep them from still adding Yates."
And here we are.
Somebody has to get dumped. The 26/13 limit means of they signed every P they wanted... they only get 13 Active... 40 total, and 60IL.
Kershaw likely gets added if needed.

I have avoided looking at Gray as a RP because I think it is too much money for him to pitch as a Reliever.

Not me. I think he's a top of the rotation starter. He has everything I would want out of a starter.
I would look at Leiter as a potential closer if he doesn't develop further this year. Would be interesting to see what he can do if you tell him not to worry about next inning and just let it rip.

I think he can excel in either role, but would really like to see him develop as a starter first. But if he looks like he can't sustain his production after one time through the order, then absolutely. I think we'll find out during this season, as long as he stays healthy

Curious why you would put a guy with TORP potential as a closer? He has 5 pitches and all the tools and makeup to be an elite #1.
Man I hope he and Leiter put it all together.
Leiter is more one I'd consider for a back end BP guy. That may be a good change of pace for him. Rocker on the other hand has briefly proven he has TORP potential.
I don't think theirs room for Leiter in the rotation to start the year anyways, so I could see him being a long reliever in the bullpen to begin.
I can definitely see Leiter in the Dane Dunning role. Long reliever/spot starter.

I agree here. I think Rocker earned a legit shot at a back end rotation spot for 2025. If he doesn't look ready in ST, then send him to AAA; but otherwise I have a hard time not putting him in as the #5 starter. Move someone else to the pen or trade them if need be, but as long as Rocker looks ready in ST you need to give him a shot.
I am torn on Leiter. He needs to work on his consistency, he may be better served in the rotation at AAA to start the season. But I would not be opposed to giving him a spot in the bullpen if he looks good in ST.Flounder Dorfman said:

Speaking of Spring Training... it's January 22nd.... it can't be long until pitchers and catchers report!
Last I heard, I think Mike Bacsik has him penciled in as our #6 starter, so first off the bench if (when) someone goes down. Even getting spot starts through the season for DeGrom or Gray as needed. I'm not opposed to this line of thinking in a way to build him up to hopefully around 100 IP, so if everything goes right, he steps in next season as one of your 5 SPs and hopefully gives you 120+ IP.
