Leclerc is the only closer I can recall who basically had a scared look on his face at times. But he was pretty solid when the franchise needed him most in 2023. That said, in WS Game 5 when Bochy sent Sborz back out to finish the 9th, I basically jumped off my couch with joy.

Random question: anybody have the Dude Perfect giveaway Rangers jersey sitting around that they want to get rid of? Specifically looking for the white one with the black/teal trim. Need it as a quasi gag gift for our guys baseball trip this summer; going to Pittsburgh this year for Rangers/Pirates.

FanFest was a success.

Seager was only signing the cards he brought.
Semien was running 30 mins late so we passed.
Accidentally got Walcott to sign the 2024 AS ball I had for Semien. *shrug* lol.

They closed the line for Pederson before I could get there.

Left before Carter, Heim, Pudge, Elvis, and a couple others...

I ran out of balls, so that was good. Need to double check but got 2x:
Walcott, Leiter, Rocker, deGrom
Eovaldi, Garcia, Jung, Bochy

1x: Langford, Smith, and Taveras

I brought:
Pics - Langford, Smith
Card - Taveras

Provided by Rangers:
Cards - Bradford 2x, Seager 2x, Milner 2x

Good time.

ETA: deGrom balls, Taveras ball, and clean up

They'll probably walk away with it, but there's a part of me that would absolutely love it if they went about 78-84 after spending all that money.

They have a roster that has serious health concerns, much like our own, so anything is possible haha.

That's in the probably won't happen category, but it definitely wouldn't be the first time a high payroll team full of superstars tanked.

The amount of injury that would be necessary for the LAD to miss the playoffs would require a tragedy.

Here is what we're looking at from a rotation (my projection)
Snell (31): 20GS, 3.12 ERA, 104.0 IP, 145 SO, 1.048 WHIP, 12.5 SO9
Yamamoto (25): 18GS, 3.00 ERA, 90.0 IP, 105 SO, 1.111 WHIP, 10.5 SO9
Glasnow (30): 22GS, 3.49 ERA, 134.0 IP, 168 SO, 0.948 WHIP, 11.3 SO9
May (26): DNP in '24; 2023: 9GS, 2.63 ERA, 48.0 IP, 34 SO, 0.938 WHIP, 6.4 SO9
Ohtani (29): DNP in '24; 2023: 23GS, 3.14 ERA, 132.0 IP, 167 SO, 1.061 WHIP, 11.4 SO9

Sasaki (23): Japan: 18G, 2.35 ERA, 111.0 IP, 129 SO, 1.036 ERA, 10.5 SO9

Gonsolin (30): DNP in '24; 2023: 20GS, 4.98 ERA, 103.0 IP, 82 SO, 1.223 WHIP, 7.2 SO9
Stone (25): 25GS, 3.53, 140.1 IP, 116 SO, 1.211 WHIP, 7.4 SO9
River (25): 4GS, 1.33 ERA, 20.1 IP, 18 SO, 1.180 WHIP, 8.0 SO9 <-LAD #5 Prospect, just outside T100

There is some real injury risk throughout the rotation. They could insert Gonsolin as the #6 SP and their AAA could comprise of Stone, River, and Sasaki.

Give Sasaki the opportunity to adjust to America at AAA and pitch once per week like he is accustomed.

What an embarrassment of riches. One would think they may consider trading some guys to get some prospects into their system.

DallasAg 94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Oh it is worse than we can imagine... $139.6M + 3 Serfs. in CBT for '25.

Snell (31): $31.7 +4 more years
Yamamoto (25): $27.1M +9 more years
Glasnow (30): $27.3M +3 more years
May (26): DNP in '24; $2.1M - FA in '26
Ohtani (29): DNP in '24; $46M +8 more years

Sasaki (23): Japan: Serf1

Gonsolin (30): DNP in '24; $5.4 (Arb3)+1
Stone (25): Serf
River (25): Serf1

May is the only guy they'll lose after 2025. Injuries are a tremendous risk with that group (as it is with most lineups)... but these guys still have 2-3 years of control in their prime.

I haven't looked at their RP entirely.

If Dustin May could only stay healthy he would be a candidate for CY to bring home next year.

It will be interesting to see what happens to May and Gonsolin. I think both get traded.

I tend to agree, but I could see them wanting to wait just a little bit longer. Like I said yesterday, injuries are a REAL deal with their pitching staff, so I could see them wanting to wait to see how things shake out on that front. I would take both Gonsolin and May tomorrow though.

Man I just read the DMNs article about Evans and Jung, and Jung has been significantly injured four years in a row with five surgeries to boot. That's an unreal pace, and not a good one. Just stay healthy please.

Evan Grant thinks 85-88 wins takes the division this year. Talks about how they plan to use DeGrom...and also looking for Wyatt to be really good this year.

I know it's kinda lame and cliche to say, but we really haven't talked enough about Wyatt this offseason. He got really good at the end of last season and he can take a huge leap towards being consistent.

He's going to be hitting in the 3 or 4 spot to start the year probably.

Wyatt Langford will be an all star in this league soon. He did everything you would want to see from a rookie. Especially one that is in the big leagues with just a couple of months in the minors. I love the idea of him roaming the Rangers outfield for the next 10+ years.

Yeah he may have been even better in the field than he was at the plate for most of the year. And that was supposed to be his weakness.

Love the conversation about how poor we were against four seem fastballs. It was a serious issue that hopefully is getting solved with additions of Pederson and Burger, and Jung and Carter. But also with simply making it a concerted effort to work on it in the offseason.

Good lord. At this point I think it's just guys tagging along to win a ring. Can't say I blame them tbh, but this is so bad for the sport in the grand scheme of things. I love getting to hate a team, as having a death star in the league is good for viewing, etc., but this is not good for the health of the league long term. I think there needs to be talks about a hard cap and a hard floor at the next CBA in a major way.

It wasn't good for the sport when they signed Ohtani the way they did. It's just getting silly now. And add to that Dodgers fans are are reaching new heights of annoying trying to spin this as a good thing.

Spot on with this. I have no issue with the Dodgers signing him, in fact I like it because Stars on big teams is good for the sport. I wish Trout would have jumped ship years ago, because his greatness will be diminished because he's been on one of the most dysfunctional baseball teams his whole career.

But it's the way they signed Ohtani. Deferring 680 effing million dollars. THAT'S NOT FAIR IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM, and it damn sure never should've happened. It's skirting the system to the highest degree, so what's the point of any cap whatsoever if you can just go around it.

I think their spending is absurd, and the next CBA should probably have a harder salary cap.

But I don't think the deferrals are that big a deal. For cap purposes you have to discount at a pretty low rate (they use one that's annually published by the IRS), and you have to start funding the deferrals during the contract years. So the Dodgers aren't really gaining any significant cash flow or CBT advantage from the deferrals. They get to claim they gave Shohei a $700million contract when in reality they gave him a $380-400million contract.

It just makes their already insane flaunting of the CBT seem worse.

I must've been on a WS high when Ohtani signed because I can't remember any grief coming from MLBPA over the deferred payments. Was there any pushback from Tony Clark and his side or did they just shut up and take it since Ohtani is going to get paid, just on a much longer time scale?

Kirby Yates signing there is just stupid. Why even have a CBT at this point?
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Not sure tbh, and like aggietony2010 pointed out it's not as black and white as they are completely skirting the system, but its the optics of it more than anything.

And for me, no other league operates like this in the united states. I don't mind what NFL teams do and how they play with contracts etc., but it also isn't the wild west of contracts either, so-to-speak. If you are going to have a cap, it should mean something while that player is on your team and for only so long after that player is gone.

Now that Yates is gone, I would give ol Jon Gray a shot at the closer roll.
