Cubs and Mets both just signed a trash #5 SP ((Boyd and Montas) to 2yr deals for WAY above what you'd expect ~$15M per yr.

Way overspend,IMO. Is that going to be the market, or will patient teams find the real value deals?!

Seems pitchers are signing a lot faster this year vs last year. May just be perception though. Maybe just the lower end targets are coming off the board

The Cards moved quickly last year. They knew they weren't in the mix for any of the big names, so they went out and settled their rotation.

I think several teams took themselves out of the mix early, last year with aging guys they could get. I'd have taken Gibson (36) and Lynn (37) before Boyd (33) and Montas (31). And I sure wouldn't have given Boyd and Montas 2yr deals.

The SP pool is deep this year, IMO, with so many guys taking 1 yr deals last year or opting out.

There are 3-5 Int'l guys I can think of that are relevant and while most of them will be 2025 Pool money guys, there should be a pretty good indication before the signing date (Jan 15), as to where they will go.

That was my thought when rumors started. I looked up his Wiki earlier... it indicated he was a 3rd Gen Japanese American and that he learned Japanese to better connect with his Japanese heritage and caught Tanaka.

So, I don't know that he is fluent, since he wasn't raised speaking it.

Speaks Spanish, as well.

I think with CY and our FO... we've show we can pull in some RPs. I think there are some internal options, but RP is fickle.

Depending on Carter's health/recovery and whether you project '23 or '24 of Duran and Josh Smith... I think we need a RHB and/or an OF/DH.

We need RP, RP, RP. We need a Closer and Setup guy, although we have some young internal options.

CY has a propensity to sign SPs. Lots of SP. I think he'll sign 3. An Innings guy $12-15M (Gibson/Lynn), a recovering retread (Mahle/TJ guy), and a tweener (Lorenzen/Urena type that has bounced between SP and RO).
