Rocker with another rough outing. Not really much hard contact but he hit a batter and walked another. Seems to be struggling with command right now.

Jon Gray fractured wrist from the line drive tonight. Hope Rocker can get it together - think we're gonna need him to start the year unless Mahle is somehow ok in time

Man this is getting ridiculous. Gray has been really good so far this spring too. Mahle seems fine though. . He just threw 55 pitches in the minors last night. We can't afford anymore pitching injuries.

Did you guys hear the comments Bochy made regarding deGrom and possibly using the IL to keep him healthy? Didn't the Mets get in trouble for using the IL for roster manipulation? Listening to a David Samson podcast and he brought this up.

The Mets did get in trouble.

They covered his comments on the radio, Friday. He probably shouldn't have said anything like that... but his injury history and contract likely would be their out.

that sucks. Was it his throwing hand or his glove hand? If it's the glove hand, he could at least keep on a throwing schedule.

scrolling through twitter yesterday I saw someone mention it (probably a retweet). Not the smartest thing to say, but anybody can have a phantom hamstring tweak and need a week or so to work through it

I mean, with his history it'd be hard to argue against it haha

If anyone wants to get a good look at all the Ranger's top prospects, the spring break out game is tonight at 7:05 on the MLB app.

Not that my opinion means anything... here is where I am with the P... Garbito and Dunning are going to have to get some innings as either SPs or scheduled long-relievers. Tandems or piggy-backs for deGrom, Leiter, and Rocker.

Mahle will likely need to be limited, as well, but this has become almost a worse case scenario.

Can never have enough pitching. Maybe we give a guy like Lance Lynn a look. Cheap one year deal that gives us depth.

Personally not too worried about the rotation currently. As long, as we don't have anymore injuries over the next month they'll be fine. It's time for Rocker and Leiter to step up. This will be a good opportunity for them. We also have 2 pitchers in Houser and Murphy who have pitched well this spring that are capable of filling in for a month or so. And if anyone is watching the breakout game Santos looks filthy. He's struck out 6 and perfect thru 3.

How are injuries around the division looking like?
gigem1223
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Only thing significant is the Kirby with elbow inflammation. But Seattle's biggest problems isn't pitching depth.

Rocker absolutely smoked Tatis Jr. last night.

The only somewhat significant injury is Kirby with the arm/inflammation. Then Christian Walker with the oblique, but it sounds like he's on the mend. The Astros are still technically missing Luis Garcia and Christian Javier, but that is long term Tommy John stuff.

I think I heard Rendon is out for a significant part of the season, maybe even all of it.

Joey Gallo switching to pitcher. Always had a cannon. Would've been really fun to have in 9 hole in the pre-DH NL days

We may have to see what methods the Seattle training staff implements to keep pitchers healthy. Are they just extremely lucky when it comes to pitching health?

Kirby is currently dealing with elbow issues. Their injury luck is bound to run out.

I was going to add that a lot of their pitchers are young and haven't gotten to the injury stage of their career yet. I feel like a lot of pitchers either blow it out as soon as they get to the minors, or they pitch a few full years at the MLB level.

That's why I'm confused why they haven't made any big roster moves to improve their team. The current situation they are in is similar to having an elite qb on a rookie contract in the NFL. As a Ranger fan I'm glad they are cheap.

Don't know that I like the rule change dealing with running through second in a force out. You can no longer run through and create a run down to let the runner on 3rd to score.

Came out pounding the zone and the CWS jumped on him early.

He made the necessary adjustments and finished strong.

Really good interview from the bench. Went longer than I thought it should, but he said all the things you'd expect.

Seems ready. It would not surprise me if Higgy catches for him and they establish a good battery.

Regarding Mariners SP... it is important to remember their splits:

'24 Season Splits for all P
Texas:
Home: 3.63 ERA
Away: 5.17 ERA

Seattle
Home: 2.85 ERA
Away: 4.18 ERA

Seattle at home, especially early in the season with the cool damp air, is really P friendly.

Logan (27): 33GS, 3.23, 208.2 IP //1.14 in '18 Stetson College. Debut in '21 @ 24
Kirby (26): 33GS, 3.53, 191.0 IP //1.20 in '19 Elon U. Debut in '22 @ 24
Miller (25): 31GS, 2.94, 180.1 IP //4rd '21 A&M. Debut '23 @ 24
Woo (25): 22GS, 2.89, 121.1 IP //6rd '21 Cal Poly SLO. Debut '23 @ 23

Castillo (31): 30GS, 3.64, 175.1 IP //Trade in '22 @ 29

All college SPs means you don't absorb the TJs from 18-21.

You have to rush a HS SP due to Rule V. 18 yos have to be on the 40 w/in 5 years. Age 23. A HS SP that gets drafted and needs TJ, you'd lost 2 years of dev and now there is a sense of urgency about the P.

A safe strategy might be drafting College SPs and stick to a 3yr timeline that says he won't make his debut until age 24. OH... and don't draft College SPs in the 1st Rd who have known arm issues... like Dillon Tate.

If Leiter and Rocker live up to their potential and Gray will be on the IL for a short period of time, I feel really good about the starting rotation.
DallasAg 94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would almost right off Gray until the ASB (July 15).

This from MLBTR is in-line with my expectations:
Quote:

TODAY: A clear recovery timetable hasn't yet been determined for Gray, but president of baseball operations Chris Young told Kennedi Landry and other media that Gray will indeed be out for an "extended time." It will be at least six weeks before Gray is even cleared to start throwing, so it seems like Texas will be placing him on the 60-day IL at some point before Opening Day.
Broken bone has had a general rule of 4-6 weeks. And that has historically been time in a cast to limit mobility. More modern approach has leaned away from casting and preventing mobility in favor of keeping the soft tissue more stretched out.

The challenge hear is, it is his throwing hand, and instinct tells me depending on where the break is, the twisting of the radial bone:

https://www.tiktok.com/@anatomy.of.motion/video/7387326085475650849

What hasn't been reported is whether or not he will need surgery.

If you take 6 weeks (42days) and 2-3 weeks rehab, you are easily in the 60IL. Late May return? IMO, that's the earliest.
