Reading all these analysis is interesting. When you stack up all these teams based on named talent it looks like the Spurs have a very small chance to make the playoffs. But what the analyst dont predict very well is coaching and culture. I promise you no Spurs player can fathom missing the playoffs. This is one reason why Patty is still important despite so many on here saying hes trash.
A few other points come to mind about this team.
- think about the last two years, lost KL one year and DJ the next. Yet still found a way.
- Last year we caught a break with Labron going down. It seems probable that one of the top 8 favorites will have a key injury again.
- The Spurs should be SIGNIFICANTLY better on defense this year. Adding DJ, Carroll and possibly the rookie Johnson should make the perimeter defense more consistent. Last season they really struggled when White was out.
- the depth of this team should account for 5 wins. Seriously there are good young guys and a couple older guys who are going to struggle getting minutes. So on nights when some starters rest they should play big and fresh and win a few. Look at the favorites and not many of them are this deep.
- Speaking of the other teams. I'm not penciling in the Clips and Lakers just yet. PG is still hurt and KL only plays 60 games. The Lakers have zero depth. Utah, Houston, Portlan and Denver all look great on paper but let's see. I think OKC drops and I dont think SAC elevates enough.
