Never ceases to amaze me how frequently people will talk chit without doing a simple fact check

What's worse is people trying to make a big deal about a very minor mistake. The Rockets MAY win their SECOND playoff series since 1997. Many born AFTER that series win in 1997 will be entering college next fall! Meanwhile the Mavs have won 13, including an NBA and conference title.

So saying 1 when it was actually 2 amazed you?? Wow.
silly mavs... thinking they are relevant.

No. I don't think the Mavs can beat the Rockets. I first thought it would be Rockets in 6. Now it seriously may be a sweep. Mavs don't look too good so far.

I think we split in Dallas and win back home in 5. That's what we need. Keep our guys rested.

I thought there was a good chance mavs could win in 6. I would never have bet on it, because it wasnt the most likely scenario.
With Parsons out, and rondo being rondo, the devin harris injury is a pretty big deal.

Haha gotta love the mavs fan beating his chest about the 13 series victories since 1997. What did they do before 1997? Teams have ups and downs. The rockets had some downs but now the tables are turning back the way they were. Maybe the mavs can be mediocre like the rockets were during their down time, rather than the laughing stock that they were in those days. I remember them winning 13 games one season in the 90s.

How we're both teams pre 60s? Why stop there though? How about pre 1900s? What about pre dinosaurs? I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this one

when it's all said and done, both of these teams are going to tie for "who gives a crap" place.

Good point. No. 2 seed in the far better conference has no chance.

"Turning back to the way they were"...uh, they've been this way for 20+ years. At what point does that become "the way things are"?

Congrats, you got the 2 seed and matched up against one of the weakest Mavs teams in recent history. You've won 2 games in first round so far. Surely you remember this if you are such a historian:

I do remember that. In fact, I mentioned it earlier in this thread. I also know that the writing is on the wall that things are and will continue to be back to the way they were. Whether you like it or not, the Rockets have been and are a better franchise. More wins, more conference titles, more championships, more hall of famers, the list goes on. But keep on talking....

20+ years? 20 years ago, the Mavs lost 140 games in 2 seasons.

The Rockets best hope is that Golden State suffers some catastrophic injury to either Curry or Thompson. That, and the Clippers making it past the Spurs.

Outside of that, they really don't have the greatest chance. And that's not to demean them. I mean, damn, they're missing two starters and ended up with the 2 seed. That's freakin' impressive, and I think Harden should win MVP.

But being as short-manned as they are, a run to the Finals is highly improbable at best. But crazier things have happened.

Golden State never played us healthy, and definitely didn't play us once we developed the chemistry we have with Jones and Howard healthy, and Smith and Brewer fully finding their roles.

Not saying we would beat them, but that series would not be a gimme for them.

I'd rather play San Antonio than the Clips, tbh. But it's not like one team is that much more desirable for the Rockets than the other. Both teams pose a big time challenge

You say this but judging by all of your posts since this and the one right before my earlier post prove otherwise. I'm a here and now person myself and Houston is the better team so far this season and this series. So accept this blue parachute/diamond as my gift to you on all of your accomplishments

1 of Houston's best players of all time (McGrady who's probably around top 5. Maybe higher) never won a playoff series. Another (Ming) won a single playoff series. Houston has won a single playoff series since 1997. Let's face it: Houston had a great few years with Olajuwon, but that's about it. Other than that they've been pretty unremarkable (not bad, just unremarkable). Lots of .500ish seasons, a fair number below .500, missed the playoffs a fair bit, etc.

So it's pretty funny to see you get snooty with a Mavs fan, as is your idea that you guys are about to become basketball royalty. You've got 20+ mil/year going to Howard, who's had numerous major injuries + surgeries and is pushing 30. Yes he might give you 2 more years of stats approaching 20/10 + good interior D, but on the other hand another medical problem (related to his other problems) might further reduce his effectiveness. Either way, he's not close to the animal that he was in Orlando, so he's not looking like a franchise cornerstone worth 20-something mil right now (one of the big reasons I said I'd take Splitter over Howard straight up... and of course then Splitter went on to have a major injury of his own).

Please show me where I said the rockets are basketball royalty. I said they are a better franchise than dallas. That is a fact. Are the rockets like Boston or Los Angeles? Nope. But they certainly have a much better franchise than dallas.

Rockets have never sucked as bad or as long as the Mavs have. They were basically the Washington generals in the 90s

I think you'd be hard pressed to find many Rockets fans who think McGrady and Yao are all-time Rockets greats.

I'm not a big bball guy, but as a native Houstonian I know they aren't mentioned with the Rockets greats like Rudy-T, Calvin Murphy, Sampson, Olajuwon, or even Drexler and Charles. Actually, more would think of Tracy and Yao as disappointments rather than greats.

Now I'll go back to lurking.

McGrady and Yao were too injury prone to ever be considered "greats" for the Rockets. If they had actually both been healthy together for a playoff run, they might have done something. That 2009 team went to 7 games without them against the eventual champion Lakers in round 2. I think Yao went down in game 1 or 2 in that series, and the Rockets overachieved by taking it to 7.

Yeah, I'm not going to sit here and say that Tracy and Yao are first ballot hall of famers and are Houston icons/legends, but if you're comparing their greatness to other Houston greats, I would leave Charles off that list.
Ag_07
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yeah I get that. That's why I put him him and Drexler on the fringe of that list and added the caveat "or even".

My point wasn't to say Drexler and Charles are Rockets greats, but to say that I may put them ahead of Tracy and Yao or maybe on the same level as far as Rockets greatness. And judging the Rockets success as a franchise based on what Tracy and Yao did is just dumb.

If I am doing a mount rushmore of Houston greats (Rox) for the last 25 years. Its going to have Dream then 3 of the following Drexler, Harden, TMAC, and Yao. I don't even consider Charles, Pippen, Franchise (even tho I love him), Cat, or any of the role players (I'm looking at you Mad Max, Horry, Kenny, OT, Big Balls Sam, and Elie)
