Another pretty accurate Fotmob. VVD was horrific (might actually be one of the worst games I've ever seen him play).

If you haven't seen any videos yet go find them of Araujo running into the stands after he scores. Love stuff like that.

Fotmob routinely loves araujo and hates jacquet.

I always take Fotmob ratings for CBs and natural CDMs with a grain of salt. Those positions rarely score or create regular chances, yet they operate in the most high-risk areas of the pitch. If a CB consistently puts in a 6.5 to 7.0 performance, that is usually more than good enough.

What Fotmob does show well is when a player at those positions genuinely has a nightmare match. As VVD's 5.6 score reflects, he was atrocious, and the eye test backed it up completely. The first 30 minutes were easily some of the worst I've seen from him in a red shirthe made a massive error leading to a goal, looked slow and switched off, and gave away terrible passes.

Finally, Fotmob seems far better suited for evaluating EPL matches than Champions League ones. It's becoming increasingly clear that CL group/league play can often be loose or inconsistent, whereas the Premier League is tight, ferocious, and played at a relentless pace. In the EPL, where small margins matter most, Fotmob does a good job capturing the little things players do right (or wrong). With the overall standard rising so fast, I think the days of players racking up 3040+ goal contributions in a season are fading10+10 or 15+5 is likely the new benchmark for a great campaign.

PSG may have won on the pitch but they are a mash unit now. Kavartschelia is now out with a torn ACL, and Dembele and Marquinhos are going to be for probably a month+, and Nuno Mendes has been out. Brutal.

I only saw highlights of the game, but even though VVD is not who he once was and has understandably dropped in form over the last few years he has still been a very good CB overall with his age. It's honestly been incredible as he has played the most minutes and never comes out. I just wonder if father time has finally caught him more, especially having to play just 3 days later. The drop off is inevitable and coming regardless.

They have to protect him more too. He just shouldn't be playing a Saturday to Tuesday at the age of 35 and with as much mileage as he had on his legs. Gomez is healthy and you brought in Araujo for this reason, so play them and give VVD some time off! On top of that Araujo and Jacquet were fantastic against Lask last week. You have evidence it's going to be fine! Then you get more help when Leoni comes back and eventually Bradley.
