Rumors swirling that Cody Gakpo has chosen to play for Man City and we are working on the sale.

Just pure stupidity if we do this. Really makes no sense to sell your best attacking player to a rival. Doubt we even bend them over the barrel.

Even if we get a decent sum for Gakpo we will waste most (if not all) of it trying to buy Minteh or Sarr, who aren't guaranteed to outperform Gakpo. Those clubs know we are desperate to buy so they will try to extract every single Gakpo dollar before the end of the window.

We should be selling Isak not Gakpo...they are basically the same age and one of them doesn't completely suck ass.

Dude 85 million is nothing in this market. Thats basically how much we are going to pay for a replacement. There is no profiting here, just getting worse.

85M is insane money for a 27 year old who's a bit limited physically imo. Gakpo is a good player. A really good player. But idk in what world his profile is 85M.

We're not going to pay that for his replacement either. Selling to city is my least favorite part of this, but for 85M I think you gotta hit the sell button. He's got no future with this club.

85 would have been a ton of money two years ago. Based on this year's market, its not enough to justify losing your best attacker and possibly miss the UCL qualification (which will cost way more than 85 million). Keep in mind we would have lost both games without him, so missing the UCL isn't a stretch.

Thats also the exact same price Tottenham paid for Savinho who is a significant step down from Gakpo in just about any meaningful category. Furthermore, whether you like it or not, that's also close to the price we are going to pay for Minteh who is currently injured and had half the goal contributions as Gakpo last year. Brighton just rejected 60 million and that was before they knew we would be extremely desperate to replace Gakpo at the end of the window. They have no reason to sell, they can just hold out until they take every bit of that transfer fee. If they don't fold, they get to keep the player (who they don't want to sell) and watch us get more desperate as we struggle through the first 3 months of the season.

If we really want to sell Cody, it needs to be for significantly more. We need to do exactly to Man City what PSG and Brighton are doing to us. Hold strong on a ridiculous valuation and watch the other party sweat.

Chelsea look fantastic. They have been buying good players for a while now, seems that Alonso has unlocked them. Rogers also looks worth the money.

Still wearing the World Champions badge on their kit is a disgrace, however.

Chelsea seems to fit the 3-4-2-1 to a T with Palmer and Rogers as No. 10's, and Neto out on the right. I'm not really sure about Gusto as a CDM and Hato creatively as a LWB, but it doesn't matter today. They look sharp.

Also, City are going to submit a 100M bid for Gakpo.

And as we say that they give one back. Chelsea are going to concede a plethora of goal this year.

It is interesting that they have conceded so much possession. They are deadly on the counter though.

One of the downsides to the 3-4-2-1 is that you are very light in midfield and maintaining possession is more difficult because your front men are pressing up the field, along with your wide players, leaving only two men in the middle.

Interesting stats from FotMob. We're all disappointed in Isak, but he is fit currently. Mentally he needs to speed up and lock in, but physically he's good.

The evening transfer news is that it sounds like Mamardashvili is headed out the door. Potentially to Nottingham Forest, but I think there's a few more clubs as well.

In his place Liverpool is speaking with Genk (Belgian Pro League) to sign Lucca Brughmans, an 18-year old 6'6" giant who apparently a pretty talented kid. No clue if this would be a replacement for Mamardashvili as a backup or a buy now, come in later transfer. Have absolutely no clue. If they brought him over though I would think they have plans to play him some.

Unfortunate for Mamardashvili who I think would've been a great goalkeeper 10-15+ years ago, but with how much keepers need to play with the ball he's just not good enough for this level.

I like the kids profile, but he's still a kid. The money isn't insignificant though, so I would bet there will be some expectations when he comes in next year. I will also save my goal keeper conversation for a rainy day lol. Just not the time to get into that other than the fact that replacing Alisson was always going to come and was always going to be difficult.

Cody officially staying! Great news in my opinion. We can always sell him in January when we have our **** together and Hughes is safely far far away from our club.

When you do 50 transfers every window, you're bound to hit on a few of them lol. But you're right in that Alonso will eventually make it all work. They just brought in Emi Martinez (for less than 8M GBP!). So that should shore up some of their defensive frailties.

So looks like this is it, Gakpo staying and an 18 yr old goalie for 2027 and a prospect winger for the future. Not signing a CDM for the 40th year in a row is going to be killer this year.

We should also include Jacquet, though the broader point stands. To their credit, they did bring in a marquee winger and center-back, solid senior depth at CB, and a promising young winger with high potential.

However, it is frustrating that as soon as one problem is addressed, another emerges and gets kicked down the road to "the next window." The decision not to sign a midfielder or fullback likely comes down to misjudging how urgent those needs actually were. Coming off last season, the midfield seemed adequate and the long-term solution at left-back was already secured. The same could be said for RB. We thought we had two great midfielders in Szbo and Gravenberch. Fast-forward through preseason and the first two matches, and both areas now look dangerously exposed. While being caught flat-footed explains the lack of action, it is still unacceptable.

Also Harvey Elliott to Valencia on a loan deal. Pretty obvious he's not in Iraola's plans long term.

Pretty good feeling we are done with incomings, and I would likely say outgoings as well. So, with that being said, here's the roster (*full disclosure I am not quite sure how injuries function in the EPL and Europe but I am going to include them for visual purposes*):

That's 24 players in total. I expect Nyoni and Koumas to get plenty of of run in the first team this year (Nyoni is starting for me on Friday). Koumas imo can play any of the attacking positions, and even perhaps the No. 10 for Wirtz, which I quite like the idea of. My last thought is that with Gomez coming back, there's a chance you go to him and tell him you're going to play RB a lot this year, and even start a good number of games. We'll play you until you get hurt.

I am ok with this roster. Next big move for the club needs to be a new sporting director with the input of Bhatia and the new consortium.

Figure out who can hang this year and who can't. Go into next summer with a real plan. And give AI the leeway to make this a transition year.

Hughes is on his way out as we speak essentially and I believe they have been grooming some people internally to take over those roles. There will undoubtedly be new ideas and a new direction as we move forward. I think we as fans forget that Liverpool and massive sports organizations are exactly that, organizations. Liverpool have something like 800+ employees, and a healthy chunk of that is front office administration, scouting, etc. They have dozens of people and departments for player recruitment and development.

I am also okay with this team. We knew coming into this year we weren't winning the league and needed to continue to turn the roster over. They addressed CB and Winger in a major way. It does appear that the midfield might need to be re-worked etc. but I suppose they were not prepared for doing that this summer. I would feel a lot better about the midfield if we replaced Mac Allister with an Adam Wharton or Adam Scott, but so be it. Nyoni could end up being a guy guy. We will see.

One transfer story to watch down the stretch: Palace are trying to steal Malick Fofana right out from under Sunderland. Since Palace's main hold-up on selling Sarr was finding his replacement, this changes things especially with Sarr pushing for a move. Definite transfer deadline drama brewing here. Doubt we get involved but you never know.

It's making the rounds that Liverpool reached out to Chelsea this morning/afternoon kicking the tires on a loan move for Malo Gusto, but Chelsea preferred a loan to buy whereas Liverpool just wanted a loan with Bradley coming back this year. Unfortunate but they have tried. Rumored that Chelsea wanted upwards of 70M for him, which is out of this universe outrageous. Liverpool are just simply not going to spend delusional money like Man City.
