It's just like any other big sporting event… including Aggie football. If you don't care where you sit and just want to be in the building, reasonable last minute tickets will be available. If you want good seats… let's use FIFAs "cat 1" terminology, those should remain in high demand.

I've got 2 round of 16 tickets for July 4th in Houston that unfortunately I'll be forced to sale… they may actually be worth more once the teams are known.

Scotland vs Morocco is still available.

Also Germany-Curacao and Netherlands-Sweden have some tickets in Houston.

Warning - their site is misleading. For M78 in Dallas for example, there's literally just one ticket available but they highlight two whole sections when you're zoomed out.

To their credit, the price is lower than lottery prices were, but still - I'm not gonna pay $405 for a single. I guarantee singles will be available for much cheaper later.

Travel Advisory

I guess more tickets will be available now that Amnesty International has posted a US Travel advisory.

This thing is gonna be a bust in terms of what it could have been. Although I do find it funny that the USA is considered a travel threat. Its still no different than any other western world country and probably quite a bit safer.

I am sure they consider Mexico safer.

Amnesty International is no fan of Mexico.

At any rate, right or wrong, there definitely seems to be pretty widespread apprehension about traveling to the US for the World Cup. Combined with FIFA's antics, the vibes are definitely not great or where they should be for this.

If I were brown-skinned and not fluent in English, I probably wouldn't try to come… but honestly, it'd be no better for me overall in most European countries either. Most might be better about letting folks in with minimal barriers, but once there, the average European is far worse about racist treatment than the average American. That is to say - some folks are likely going to be F-ed with by ICE, but once they're in, they'll be treated much better than most places in the world.

Honestly, I can only think of a small handful of countries where I might be willing to say that people from every walk of life would be treated better than in the US. And even then, I'm not too sure.

While we're griping about FIFA - I finally just got a wire transfer for the profits from my ticket sales on their marketplace. Credit card refund for the purchase was instant, but getting cash in my account for the profit took 3.5 months. I'll let someone smarter than me calculate how much extra money they make by keeping my money that long.

A few months ago I advocated for buying resale on their site (after mine had sold) - because under the old Category model it was advantageous for buyers to use them for a variety of reasons. But now that they have assigned seats, I wholeheartedly think you should pass and use someone else if you want to buy resale. Their site is awful for buyers trying to find good prices - and they're screwing sellers by not paying them in a timely manner.

But they'll be sure to bill you immediately for ticket sales!

Any thoughts or hesitations on buying tickets through TickPick, Stub Hub, etc? Looking mainly at Germany-Curaao in Houston, plenty available on those sites. Just not sure how reliable or secure it is.
AgRyan04

I can only speak to Stubhub, but they guarantee their tickets

I've used them probably 50 times over the years

Thanks, appreciate that. I've used TickPick for other events and have never had a problem. I guess I was wondering more about the World Cup specifically and ticket listings right now. I assume they're all legit, but with those prices, I'd hate to get scammed.

I think now that seats have been assigned, the risk is very low. But not zero because the transfer of tickets has to happen on the FIFA platform, not via Stubhub. Sellers have to prove that they have the tickets to Stubhub, but that's only a small safeguard because this event involves so much international interest. There's a risk that someone could still essentially refuse to transfer the tickets, keep your money, get their account closed by Stubhub, but escape criminal prosecution from Stubhub because they live in BFE. And then they could list them elsewhere and make more money. And then maybe eventually sell them. Or maybe use all the scamming to pay for their flight to the States to actually go to the game.

Very worst case, you'll eventually get your money back (it is guaranteed) but the process might take forever to resolve and you end up having to pay more to attend while you wait. Or you miss out and don't get to go.

The FIFA marketplace is the only way to guarantee a transfer will happen instantly… but as I mentioned above, the site is sheer trash. Very hard to find the cheapest seats.

Yep. A lot of these games are going to end up really cheap. Like bring Ms Fletchers entire kindergarten class cheap.

I think a huge factor is the expanded format. Fans of quality teams aren't gonna pay to see group stage games against the likes of Iraq, Curacao, etc that would've had no business being in previous WCs. For the top teams, there's almost no risk of not advancing since many 3rd place teams will also move on.

So I agree with the speculation that interest will improve once teams advance… most of the top teams are countries in the Visa waiver program so they can basically just come when they want. And I bet others (Argentina/Brazil/etc) already have secured their Visas and maybe even flights but are waiting to see where they actually end up before booking hotels.

If that's all true, then ticket prices for knockouts are going to rise once group results get confirmed.

I would take that bet! You definitely don't know Brazilians!!!

My wife works in the Consulate in Houston, she would even tell you this. You wouldn't believe how many "oh I need a new passport as mine expired and I am leaving tonight" stories she tells.

So is the smarter move to sit tight regarding purchasing tickets, in hopes that prices drop even more? There are plenty on sites like Stub Hub and Tick Pick, and not for crazy prices either (more than I'd like to pay, but not too much more). And as someone mentioned above, the FIFA site is garbage (and more expensive, it seems). The only game I can realistically make is Germany-Curacao (maybe Portugal-Congo DR if that drops enough), and I'd like to get by with paying as little as possible.

The website I posted says that ticket prices have dropped like 70% in the last month, I'm planning to hold tight and get some more last minute. I think they'll continue to come down.

Thanks. I did take a look at that site. Guess I'll hold off for a bit longer and see what happens.

I would bet eleventy internet dollars that tickets to both of those games drop another 70%.

If you look into group stage stadiums used in recent WC's, the average max attendance is 40k range. Our stadiums sit in the 60k range, meaning a ~50% increase in available tickets. Reasonable seats for most group stage games will be available. The knockouts should be well attended across the board, but even there, you always have a last-minute drop in prices.

If I am reading correctly on my FIFA app, I can see where my tickets are for the Houston game of Netherlands v Sweden. I have section 317, Row C, seats 1&2. Not bad, but it is the corner of one end. I see on Stubhub that those tickets are selling for about $1,400 for two tickets.

**Edit - you are more correct Serotonin!!** I read it wrong the first look.

They are selling for $1,400 each?

OR

Someone has floated them out there for $1,400 each but if they actually wanted to move them today they'd have to cut the price to $600 each?

Just as a point of reference, I sold two round of 16 Houston seats in section 302 (corner). I was not looking for top dollar but was hoping to offset my other three sets of tickets a bit, so I posted them to my personal social media first. Both sold for $2500 in about 5 minutes with others waiting to buy if the first deal fell through.

Man, painful to read that (from the Buyer's perspective). And you might not have been looking for top dollar but I'd say you got that and a lot more.

Right now a quick check in on FIFA exchange for R16 match in Houston you can get the following (after fees):

- Section 303 Row L 10-11: $1,005.10 each
- Section 303 Row J 5-8: $1,092.50 each
- Section 304 Row L 10-11: $1,005.10 each

Those aren't moving right now and have been sitting for days. I think if you want to move R16 tickets in that area you want to be priced under $1,000, at least on FIFA site.

Edit: I think I misread your post as saying you sold for $2,500 each. $2,500 for the pair is still pricey given face value of ~$1,200 and current market of $2,000 and trending down but not the craziest thing in the world.

Indeed... $2500 for the pair or $1250 each. Essentially doubling the real cost and paying for one of my other games.

Makes sense, I could see that price moving very quickly after they came out. And buyer would get all the upside if Brazil or Mexico somehow screw up in group stage to finish second and end up in that match.

I sold all mine back in January and am taking a 100% free trip to Chicago to watch the USMNT vs Germany friendly on June 6.

I decided I'd much rather watch my two favorite teams for free, albeit in a friendly, than to have spent thousands to watch random teams.

But on topic, yeah the prices you see are the prices that aren't moving… but you only need to barely undercut them to get them to move… or at least that was the case before seats got assigned. It might be harder now.

Am I an idiot but I can't figure out how to view my tickets...what am I doing wrong?
