I don't want to keep harping on it, but we keep trying this thing where Marcus and Zirkzee stay forward, Bruno is mostly forward but does come back out of possession as does Garnacho, and the full backs are kind of playing more like wing backs. The problem is Spurs are fast, and everyone is chasing when we lose possession. Well, not everyone, Marcus is just jogging a bit.

It doesn't effing work well. And we don't score enough to take advantage when we have the ball.

If these teams had competent ball strikers this would be like 3-4 right now.

Yeah I saw that too, but I don't think they do that. I actually think Ruud was hired as assistant as an insurance policy. He had a good record at PSV and resigned because he disagreed with the board. He was in line for Burnley manager and pulled out of that to be assistant. He's overqualified as assistant to be honest, albeit without an extensive resume. I'd prefer him as interim over Ole (and I'm not an Ole hater; I wish he had a position because I think he had some good successes here).

And by interim I mean for the remainder of the year.

This is/was a big week for Mr. ten Haag. I went in thinking he needed at least 2 good performances to point to out of the 3 games in the next 7 days. I guess in theory that's still possible but this one was so bad it might not really even matter how the next 2 go. Not that there's any realistic chance that they go well anyway.

I almost always lean toward giving a manager 2-3 years which is why, given the circumstances in May, I was fine to keep him with the condition that it come with a short rope.

Well, I think we've crossed the point on no return and I don't see a way this ends well with him. Sad but that's where I think we are. At this rate, he's gone by the November international break and then will be interesting to see who comes in (Southgate would be my strong bet) and maybe more interesting what happens to the half dozen Ajax players he brought in.

I just don't see how he survives another match. They can't afford another loss in the EPL or EL and he looks lost setting up a team to compete.

You may be right but I would still be very surprised if they pulled the trigger this week. That said, Southgate appears to be a firm favorite with both Ratcliffe and Ashworth. They don't have to wait if they want to go get him.

I'm going to lose my mind if they hire Southgate.
