Team failure today. Onana pissed himself. But the defending on 2 of those goals was outrageous. I'm going to repeat what I have said before, there are still players that need to be sent out of this club.

I only started watching at the 75th minute but they never looked like scoring. It's not that they ran out of ideas, it's that they had no ideas. Amad is seemingly the only player who can create an opportunity on a consistent basis and I think he had about 7 touches in the final 20 minutes...one of which led to a yellow card when he blew past Nico Williams. Dalot saw way more of the ball on the left than Amad and that's just scandalous.

Going to get very interesting to see where this team is sitting come end of January. Looking at their league schedule, there are maybe 2 of 7 games where they are the favorites? @ Tottenham and @ Arsenal in the domestic cups will likely knock them out of both. There's a very realistic scenario where this club is 15th and out of the domestic cups come end of January. I'd call that the likelihood at this point given that Amorim has a squad that was meant for a 4-2-3-1 and wasn't very good at it and now has to try and get them trained into a 3-4-2-1 by shoving a bunch of square pegs into round holes with little time to do so because they have to play a game every 3 days.

He's right to manage for the long run. United are right to let him to do so. But their collective resolve is going to be tested severely if/when United are sitting in 15th at the end of January and out of both domestic cups.

So he's been there 5 months and whatever he did this summer to try and support EtH gets unraveled by swapping to a new manager and completely different system. I wonder if he was really pushing to keep EtH. He certainly wasn't there to overpay for Mount.

Supposedly he was the one that fought to keep EtH over the summer. Jim wanted EtH gone.

Athletic with a follow-up story that had a few more pieces of information. Apparently Ratcliffe wasn't impressed with the way he handled EtH alternatives when asked for them. Didn't like the names he offered and felt he was just falling back on England based managers that he knew. Also states that Ashworth suggested United outsource recruitment data to a 3rd party which Ratcliffe reacted poorly to expecting that Ashworth would take a leadership role in that area.

Even if one agrees with the reasoning, going from "He's one of the top executives in all of football" in February to "I don't like your manager suggestions or your overall leadership ethos" in like 3-4 months is just shockingly dumb.

That said, I was on the "What's so much better about Dan Ashworth over other names that we don't have to fight with Newcastle over?" at the time. I would have been just as happy with Paul Mitchell (who was available at the time). Not sure why they thought Dan Ashworth was was so great that it was worth paying Newcastle a buyout and waiting 6 months for him.

Whatever the problem was, though… I would admit he seemed to perform much better than Murtough. Admittedly a low bar.
