15 million isn't enough to get a replacement who can back up Dalot. This doesn't make sense to me unless they have their eye on an out of contract RB or plan on promoting a U21/U18 player up...but the latter seems highly unlikely.

Well, not trying to be offensive, but it's hard to know how much there is to spend without being in the club. Also, bear in mind, you can do the Chelsea trick if you really want to and turn 40M in sales into 200M in signings through the magic of amortization. The only problem (and it's a big one) is you get behind the curve in future windows.

I mean, I did call back of the napkin math and I would hope at this point that it's quite clear that I'm not a club insider or anything. So yes, I can confirm that I don't know how much money they have to spend. Sorry if anyone out there assumed I did.

I'm not trying to be mean. I'm just saying that the club isn't behaving like the transfer kitty is almost empty. If Malacia is still seriously injured (which I still haven't heard what exactly is going on there from anyone credible) we will need to get a left back, and we aren't going to get any money from Malacia until he's not hurt. I think we probably end up at about 6-7 players in total incoming for the summer. I think we need to lose a player to get a player from here on. And buying costs more than selling makes unless they do something shocking like sell Bruno or Rashford (PSG are closing in on Osimhen, so that likely ends any Rashford leaving rumors; maybe Sancho could still leave without needing replacement, I don't know, but it doesn't sound like there's been many potential buyers).

FWIW, I did a name search in news for Malacia, and apparently the club released video of him in individual training at Carrington a couple days ago. (I didn't see it; apparently lost in the transfer news deluge). And I knew they said he was training when he wasn't in the traveling squad earlier this week, but that means pretty much whatever the club wants it to mean. Anyway, there's apparently video of Malacia ambulatory on grass. Yea!

Reports that United have entered the Dani Olmo transfer saga "with force". He has a 60M EUR release clause that expires...tomorrow. How would you even accommodate Bruno and Olmo in the same team? This smells like a giant load of BS to me.

Similarly smelly is the rumor that Tottenham want to hijack Fulham's potential for McTominay (Did Fulham ever have a potential deal? When did that happen?). United are asking for 40M GBP. None of that seems likely though it seems more likely than the Olmo nonsense.

Roma owners pulled out of their bid to purchase Everton. Maybe time to go back and offer that 40M for Branthwaite and see what Everton think about it now.

I don't see anyone paying 40M for Mctominay; more like 30M-35M. That said, if I could sell Scott and buy Ugarte for about 10M more, that would be fantastic. I know we'd ideally sell Casemiro to Saudi, but that doesn't seem to be on a very fast track right now.

I don't know, it depends. The tweet mentions all of the verbal bids had been below 45M euros. I think they bought him for 60M euros last year. He didn't do as well as they hoped, but I don't think he was Antony level either where you aren't sure you could sell him for a pack of chewing gum. 45M euros is probably about right. I think this deal probably moves if they are able to get Neves from Benfica. If that happens, we probably get Ugarte. Benfica drives hard bargains, though, so they will have to overpay to make that happen. (Otherwise we'd still be in for Neves ourselves).

Sounds like Toby Collyer will see an increased role with the 1st team this season. Unless he amazes ala Mainoo I would guess it will primarily be in occasional sub appearances or the Carabao Cup.

I would kind of expect that United will need to sell either Mctominay or Casemiro to clear room (roster and PSR), but PSG have almost closed their deal for Joao Neves, which will make them likely more interested in off loading Ugarte. Or maybe we make room by selling them Sancho; we have a lot of players that can play wings at the minute. (Garnacho, Rashford, Amad, Antony, plus Mount, Bruno and I believe Zirkzee can play there in as needed capacity, although wing Bruno is my least favorite Bruno).

United have agreed to a fee with Bayern for Mazraoui who has agreed a contract as well. But won't make it official unless they sell AWB.

West Ham wanted Mazraoui but he wants to play for ETH again. So now they might go for AWB which would allow United to go for Mazraoui. He can play LB reasonably well so would add some versatility. Would be a likely upgrade but who knows if AWB actually moves on.

As an Arsenal fan, I'm mad he left because he was absolutely destroying the youth leagues. Big, quick striker that could develop really well. Rumors I saw said you guys doubled our offer, but that's all rumor.

Well, one way of looking at it is we are paying double what you guys offered. But another way of looking at it is we are paying probably 1/100th of what we are paying Antony. (Or whatever ratio it is; let's assume it is a lot less).

So anyway, I guess everything is relative.

I don't know anything about him other than his goal total for youth (under 18s maybe?) was high (like 30-something)

He was averaging a hat trick a match at the u-16 level. Moved up to 18s and was still doing consistently well. I do believe he played a few games for our reserve team at the end of last season and didn't look out of place. He's still only 16 so you never at that age how they'll finish developing

Probably wasn't hard to convince him given the absolute dearth of strikers at United. It's Hojlund and Zirkzee (who really isn't an out an out striker) on the 1st team, Wheatley and ??? at youth level. Ample opportunity in coming years.

Yoro out 3 months. Hojlund out 6 weeks. Rashford and Antony both injured today.

My optimism has already evaporated.

Pre-season tour strikes again

Has there been any update on Rashford? Haven't heard anything yet. Well, and Antony too, I guess, but if Antony were out for a few games, it wouldn't affect my viewing enjoyment overly much. And I'm under few illusions that he won't be here.
