The ref didn't call obstruction. The AR called offsides.

What a great and well officiated game

Maybe not a perfectly officiated match. Here are images of the kick from spot which was saved but the AR said the goalie left her line early.

Shots were taken from video as the ball was kicked and just after.

Hearing about a fight in Region IV boys regionals. Don't know which teams or which division. Surely there's someone out there ready to blame the refs though.

And remember at this stage it's refs from other regions who almost all are higher rated USSF.

Ah the regional tournament. Where my newly minted head coach ass found out about technical areas and that some referees are sticklers about coaches staying in them.

Eastlake kid was Messi-ing the ball in a free kick and Flower Mound coach was yelling to the AR he was moving it. AR firmly told him to go back to the box and be quiet.

Most complaining to the referees I've seen since I watched the Nations league.

A kid was dribbling the ball holding his arm for a handball call looking back at the referee.

Referee just blew the whistle on a set piece while the ball was in the air for PK.

Header scored. PK saved.

That is horrible refereeing.

Man, I get judgment mistakes and most fouls are 100% subjective.

But when they're encroaching on every free kick and throw in, it's not a question of judgment but just not enforcing the rules.

Tied 1-1 in OT. We should've won with the Pk and goal that was disallowed.

I was laughing at the coach having a similar thing. Sorry.

Flower Mound wins 1-1 and 42 in PKs.

According to the players on the field who were talking to the referee after the goal, he verbally told them no goal because of obstruction. I too just assumed that he called offsides but that isn't what was said by the head referee on the field to the players involved.

Not necessarily higher-rated in USSF. Highly-rated in their local TASO chapter and USSF are two different things. Me, for example. I'm the lowest-rated you can get in USSF but I just did a Regional QF playoff game in TASO. the highest assignment that a ref can get from their local chapter assignors.

Local assignors are done now. They don't pick the Regional and State officials. UIL has a selection process that occurs with that.

Super tight looking at the video. Which, for me, would make me keep my flag down. AR was a lot closer than the video camera though.

Progresso - La Vernia

I don't know. The two games were Boerne v Hidalgo and La Vernia v Progresso

Here's my notes from the Zapruder like viewing of the Veo video from our game.

03:57 - Game starts

11:27 - FW Yellow - PNG on the attack, our attacking mid basically stops in a box out position in front of a PNG attacker around mid field. Clearly obstruction, but yellow? Our entire back line was back, and the contact was 15 yds behind the play.

36:37 - PNG Yellow - Ball in air around our box, FW girl goes straight up for it, PNG player comes flying in and takes her out. Maybe a little dangerous.

39:12 - FW Red Card Goalie. She was around the 5 yd line when she punted, ref was at about 35 yd line. I thought the AR told her something but it looks like she heard it directly. As soon as the goalie punts it the ref turns and sprints too her and shows Red. Still think it was too harsh. On that game changing of a call I would have at least liked to see her confer with the AR (whose was much closer) to make sure she understood the situation.

This is the sequence where things unravel…

74:43 - FW Yellow. PNG girl around 15 yd line takes on FW and gets by two defenders. The ball squirts out a long way in front of her so I don't think she would get to it. Maybe one of the FW grabs her arm as she passes? I don't know. It looks like a common hand finding situation type foul. Award the free kick in a dangerous position. No need for yellow to me.

78:35 - FW Yellow. FW player tries to take ball from girl at mid field and misses. Kiddos looks like she gets some ball but hard to tell. PNG player trips partially over ball and partially from contact. Again, common foul. Gives card and sprints after player. Maybe FW girl was mumbling something? This was in no way a yellow to me. It was a clean attempt at the ball that just didn't workout.

81:56 - FW Yellow. Foul from behind on a box out and protect the ball situation. I think she calls that a common foul, though I thought she got ball, and so do our players. She then yellow cards another FW girl who is walking away from the play and I guess says something. I think at this point our girls mentally snap. Two really bad yellow card calls in the previous 5 min and then another call they didn't think was a foul.

82:00 - FW Yellow. Gives another yellow to another FW girl, this is the one who says "Learn how to do your job." Player immediately starts to walk to sideline. Deserved yellow.

82:11 - FW Yellow. Same girl says something as she's walking away and is probably 10 yards away from ref. I guess this is where she repeats her "Learn how to do your job." My frustration is that if the point of making them sit with a yellow is to cool down then 10 seconds doesn't really seem like time. Let the girl walk off and move on with the game. I can understand the yellow but repeating the same phrase twice in 10 seconds to me I would umbrella under the first yellow. Maybe I'd just be a soft ref

82:30 - Kicks first set of parents out of game.

83:35 - While the parents are escorted out, instead of walking to mid field or anything, the ref stands at our sideline right in front of the section the parent is sitting in. As the parent continues to yell on the way out, the ref gives a few thumbs up (like a "OK lady. Keep talking." Sarcastic way) to the parent continuing to yell on her way out, then says "That's what you've been saying all game". To me that's a bit unprofessional on her end. Walk away. You've told the coach now let the coach handle the parent. Go back to the game. You are just antagonizing with those gestures and your presence on the sideline.


90:25 - PNG Yellow. Player goes for our attacker on a break and misses ball, attacker goes down. Borderline but I'm fine with a yellow. I personally would have just called a foul because it happened at the 50 and there were 3 defenders still behind her. It was an honest attempt at a tackle.

91:20 - Kicks photographer out of the game

110:10 - Proud dad moment as I notice my daughter is the first (and only) player from either team to go fist bump the refs after the handshake line.

Overall 6 cards to our 3 for the entire year. Our girls dug themselves the hole in some ways but lord the ref stunk. It wasn't at all a physical game and should and could have been a good match with a different ref, IMHO.
