That was a super weird game. Kimmich had an early Red for obvious prevention of goal scoring opportunity.

Then 2 red cards were given on fouls on Kane in the box but were clearly not the same type of prevention of goal scoring opportunity. So it was 10 v 9.

Random musing for a Friday morning.

Who is the next non Big 6 team to win a title?

For reference here are all the non Big 6 winners going back 50 or so years.

Leicester 2016
Blackburn 95
Leeds 92
Everton 87
Everton 85
Villa 81
Forest 78
Derby 75
Leeds 74
Derby 72
Everton 70

Newcastle is a fairly obvious choice but I can see Villa making a run, especially in a post Pep era. Maybe Brighton?

Random fact I discovered a few years ago. When Everton won their 7th title in 1970, Everton, Liverpool, United and Arsenal were all level on 7 titles. Villa and Sunderland were one behind at 6. Arsenal then won the next year to go to 8 and then Liverpool went kn their run in the 70s and 80 and United had their run for the following 20 years. And now we're in City's era...

You forgot to include Tottenham in your list. They'd be at the bottom since their last title was in 1961.

If I was going back THAT far I'd have to include Ipswich in 62. And who wants to include them?

The 20 year run after thr War had a nice mix of winners. Starting in '47:

Liverpool
Arsenal
Portsmouth
Portsmouth
Spurs
United
Arsenal
Wolves
Chelsea
United
United
Wolves
Wolves
Burnley
Spurs
Ipswich
Everton
Liverpool
United
Liverpool
United
City
Leeds
Everton '70

12 different winners in 24 years.

The next 22 years up until the end of the First Division knly had 7 different winners. And the 31 years of the Premier League era has only had 7 winners.

By contrast the NFL has had 15 different champions over the last 31 years (including a historic Pats dynasty) and MLB had had 16.

That was like watching a Fast and Furious production of a football match.

The best part was watching Spurs defend with a suicidally high line at the top of the center circle and then watch Chelsea fail at scoring over and over again.

Newcastle at Bourne mouth today. I was thinking how that's about the farthest road game any two teams have. Just shy of 6 hours. Looks like Newcastle Swansea is about the same. For so much of the US, especially in the west, there's hardly any other teams (and rarely more than 1 or 2) within 6 hours.

Sarabia had a goal and an assist in less than 10' to win the game for Wolves today. His first and second touches on his goal were incredible.

Is this going to be a relegation battle of legendary bad levels?

Currently the last 4 teams have 6, 6, 4, & 4 points. Through 11/12 games. That projects to 4 teams on pace for less than 25 points. Goal differentials would be -33, -54, -57, -63. (assumes simple 3x current goal differential).

For comparison 2020-21, the only season since 2003 that 3 relegated teams finished with less than 30 points each, had a goal differential of: -26, -41, -43. I think 07-08 Derby holds the record for worst goal differential at -69.
