Ok, let me see if I got this right: in this world where there are 4 points less for Arsenal and 2 points more for CIty, Arsenal are down two points to City going into the last match. In which case, it is safe to say City doesn't rest Erling Haaland on the final day? And all they need to do is draw?

I mean… I'm personally glad that isn't what happened… but if you are trying to show Arsenal were champs without help from bad calls… not so convincing to me.

First and foremost - let's be clear that I approve of all match fixing that helps screw City out of a title until they are actually penalized for their infractions.

That being said, I agree the analysis of these numbers by Arsenal fans is flawed - in fact the folks who actually made the numbers were making the opposite claim - that it would've actually made the title come down to the wire and therefore it might've mattered.

But the whole exercise is a fools errand IMO. In addition to the larger perspective, individual moments in a game change the way teams play. Example, if a team is parking the bus successfully but a bad call leads to a goal for their opponent, now they have to come out of their shell… that might lead to a goal. The analysis might say "well they would've lost anyways so the bad call didn't matter" when in fact, the bad call likely caused the 2nd goal too, so the game would've likely ended in a draw instead of a loss. And while that might seem like reaching, its plausible enough to expose that this kind of numbers game doesn't really mean much.

Name a champ that hasn't benefitted and been screwed by bad calls? And ask them if they care? They don't because the only people who do have a 2-20 next to their name.

So I hope others keep posting all their cute videos and stats that somehow prove we cheated or the PGMOL or FA helped us win the ****ing 'ship. I actually ask that they post them here instead of hiding inside their team threads. Please, I need more of them.

Lmao. First your premise is that Arsenal didn't actually benefit from bad calls because even if they were corrected they would have won. Then you change your premise to say "well every champion benefits from bad calls so it doesn't matter if Arsenal did too."

If you're going to **** talk at least be consistent.

Nobody is crying. You're just Arsenal for crying out loud. Sheesh. From my perspective, you are far preferable to Liverpool and City; probably ahead of Chelsea now but one could make a case for behind Chelsea in the Abramovich era. You are ahead of Spurs, though, which we know is all you really care about. Nobody would be talking about PGMOL being **** affecting the title right now if you didn't decide to bring it up.

Yeah this is literally only an issue for City fans, and like I've said - until they're properly punished for all the cheating, I hope refs continue to be biased against them and biased in favor of any other contenders.

There a tons of what if games that could be played in any season. Every teams fans do this when they lose.

The biggest what if could be what if city did not cheat to have extra money to spend on players. Would city have been able to build their title winning squad.

Regardless of sport, whenever my FIL sees an officiating error, he likes to ask what's become a rhetorical question for us: "if the ball bounces off the home plate, but the ump calls a strike - is it a ball or a strike?"

The answer is that it's a strike - period - because officiating errors are part of the game.

Yeah, but I believe there are more errors and controversy in EPL than in just about any other sport I watch. Maybe I just care more, and, for example, if I watch an NBA game I just actually don't care.

I just can't think of any sport with something as ridiculous as Ref Watch on a weekly basis. I mean, I think the NFL equivalent would be dead boring. I seek Ref Watch out just because I know it's likely to have some incredible refsplaining and information minister stuff from Dermot Gallagher on a weekly basis. And theoretically I'm not even supposed to see it because it's on Sky, but you can count on being able to find it somewhere.

What I don't understand about the EPL is how it can be so inconsistent in its application of the VAR decisions when the replays are reviewed by a "central command" similar to the NFL.

They need to stop rotating the various refs through the VAR room and, instead, have a dedicated review team that simply does all the games. Alternatively, turn VAR into a limited coaches challenge system where the VAR call is either made by the on-field ref without third party input, or the VAR central committee issues a ruling without on-field ref input. I think most fans would accept VAR a lot more if two identical handball situations didn't result in different outcomes because a different VAR official was reviewing each call.

I like it. I'd make a challenge system only. Unlimited challenges, but if you're wrong, it's a yellow card for time wasting to the coach/captain who called for it.

Then, if the onus isn't on VAR to call down, you can have panels of 3 guys on standby instead of dedicating individuals to particular games. Maybe like one panel per 3 games happening at the same time. When a challenge comes in, they review independently and vote. If they're not unanimous, the call on the field stands. But if they are unanimous, it's now 3 against 1. The ref doesn't get a final say, it's overturned.

The ridiculousness of the transfer fees being listed for players this transfer window is insane.

Seems every decent player right now is being valued at 85m and up.

Nottingham Forest are demanding ~120m for Eliot Anderson
Villa want ~100m for Rogers
Kroupi Jr for ~80-100
Apparently 150m isn't enough for Julian Alvarez (although this was a bs bid)

That's the number of years remaining on each player's contract. Clubs have 0 pressure to sell in that situation. Those players sacrificed easy, upward mobility to bigger/better clubs for the safety net of a long term, guaranteed contract at a relatively high wage even if their form fell off or they sustained a long-term injury.

As long as there are at least a handful of clubs able to pay those transfer fees, clubs will keep slapping those values on their players with long-term contracts.

I think Nottingham Forest missed an opportunity to do the Atletico Madrid **** talk thing and tweet out that City must pay at least a million per charge for Anderson.
