If I reffed a game like that I would expect to fail an assessment every time. You can't say he missed any key match incidents but his man management and foul recognition was just not good.

however, when he made the Uruguay player backup 3 meters to take a free kick at miidfield, that was way too extreme.
Referees who are more concerned about getting restarts extremely accurate yet at the same time ignoring significance fouling, should be watching the games, not refereeing them.

At this stage you get a plane ticket home. If it's a bad group stage match you just don't get another. They guarantee you one. Everything else is earned. And the thing is, Ramos didn't exactly shine in his first match and it was a bit of surprise that he got this. But FIFA was boxed in a bit. They couldn't use a UEFA ref or a CONMEBOL ref because of confederation neutrality. Geiger is the best CONCACAF ref by far but he's being saved for later and a Mexican ref always gets a knockout match (it's a political deal).

Nah, 2-3 of their players kept slipping anytime they made a sharp cut down the right hand side in 2nd half

. Probably not intentional. There has been a lot of slipping on the turf by players from different teams in several of these venues.

Yeah, but so many at once in the penalty area? Maybe I misspoke when I said "intentional." I didn't mean as in diving, but maybe not that interested in staying on their feet when coming in contact with the defenders.

1) I'm well aware copa America is a thing. Nobody cares about copa America very much and again messi has done everything but win copa America (lost twice in pks to Chile). The reality is Messi would have won both a world cup and copa America if higuain wasn't a pathetic goal scorer on the national team. If you use that as a strike against messi as a player then you're just not making a legitimate argument.
2) I do know balon d'or is a calendar year thing. I was highlighting how stupid it was that Ronaldo won the last balon d'or
