All good things must come to an end...
My email I just sent to Huddle House
To: Jennifer Nolen
CC: Jeff Cole
Howdy Jennifer,
My name is Jason and I'm a former student of Texas A&M University. It is my understanding that you were contacted by Winston Gamso inquiring about the possibility of opening one or more Huddle Houses in College Station, TX. I am emailing you in follow up to that conversation.
Let me start by stating that I've copied Jeff Cole (VP of Real Estate for Waffle House) on this email. The reason I've copied him will become obvious.
Ms. Nolen, I grew up in a part of the country that doesn't have Huddle Houses, so I have to say that I've never actually been to one of your restaurants - I grew up a loyal Waffle House patron. A lot of folks from Texas may have never actually had Huddle House because there aren't that many here. That being said, in MOST cities in Texas, you can't drive more than five blocks without passing a couple of Waffle House locations - most cities not counting College Station, TX and a fifty mile radius surrounding us.
Among Aggies, it has long been a topic of conversation that College Station lacks a staple of small town America - Waffle House. It's been talked about so long that back in 2011, I contacted Waffle House's corporate office and inquired as to our lack thereof. We were told that there were no plans to build one any time soon if at all, and even though Waffle House has been inundated with countless requests to reconsider and open a chain of stores in our city, our requests have fallen on deaf ears. Mr. Cole, I'm the reason you started receiving emails a year and a half ago.
In a recent email, Mr. Cole made it clear that Waffle House had no intention of opening any restaurants in College Station or anywhere even remotely close, instead deciding to further expand their footprint in the Houston market, even though he felt they would be successful in College Station. It is for that reason among others that I'm reaching out to you. My love affair with Waffle House is over. Even though I've never had a meal from Huddle House, thousands of other Aggies can't be wrong in stating that Huddle House is fantastic and most feel it is better than Waffle House. I implore you and the executive leadership team to strongly consider opening a series of restaurants in the Brazos Valley. I have no doubt that if Huddle House were to conduct a feasibility study of Bryan / College Station, it would become extremely clear that we are an ideal location for Huddle House to call it's new home.
Mr. Cole, best of luck to you and Waffle House as you continue expanding into Houston. I currently live in Houston, but will not be frequenting any of your establishments from this point forward.
Ms. Nolen, I hope to see or hear of Huddle Houses coming to College Station (and Houston if possible) in the near future!
Gig 'em!
Jason
