Question: I've lost about 20 lbs in the last 2 months. I've hit a wall and don't seem to be making any progress lately. I'm following the same regimen with counting calories, exercise and eating clean.
Has this happened to anyone?
Any suggestions?
Your metabolism adjusts when you lose weight- meaning, it now takes less calories overall in order to fuel you for a day when you weigh less. So you must intake less or burn more if you want to lose more weight

If you're TRULY counting every calorie, then there is a misconception about the energy balance- so while it may seem like you're following the plan, you're either intaking more calories than you realize, or you're not burning as many calories as you realize.

Write down what you eat for a week- METICULOUSLY- then eat 200-300 calories less each day to compensate. I guarantee you will start to lose weight again- slowly but surely

Other possibilities:

- You are losing fat and gaining muscle at a similar rate so you're making progress but not losing weight. Are you tracking anything besides weight? Measuring your waist, using calipers, etc?

- You lost a bunch of weight really quickly and lost muscle mass in the process. This would reduce the calories you're burning by just existing so eventually eating the same amount you used to would no longer be a deficit. What exercises are you doing? If you are lifting weights are you progressing and getting stronger?

Thanks for the replies!
I ride a gravel bike 3 days a week and do at least 16-18 miles per ride. I do workout on my bow flex from time to time but not on a set schedule. I can't do free weights with my shoulder issues.
I keep track of my calorie intake on MyFitnessPal. I cut out as much sugar as possible and now going to cut more carbs and try that.
I'm 57 as of today and can't do what I used to.
Oh and I cut out booze. 59 days today with no beer.

Good eating week, bad workout week. I'm probably not eating enough for the work that I'm putting in, need to be willing to sacrifice some weight loss to recover better, just been exhausted lately.

Terrible, terrible start to this year. Life got real hectic, real fast but slowing down now thankfully and can approach this better.

176.8 on January 7, 169.3 this morning. I tore my meniscus off the inside of my knee between Christmas and New Years and will have surgery next month so not too shabby.

4-5 HIIT workouts a week with battle rope and weights

Only eat between noon and 8 pm. Only one moderate serving and no snacking on kids leftovers

Still drinking like a fish and it doesn't seem to matter

I've had COVID this week, so no running. Diet has stayed consistent, though.

1/13: 208

Hovering around 209 all week, but I think my scale is on the fritz. I can step on it, get result, step off and right back on and weight up to 5 pounds lighter or heavier. The last few days I've just averaged 5 tries.

Weight trending down nicely. Body fat estimate trending down even more nicely.

I'm in what feels like a very sustainable rhythm on both diet and exercise. Lifting M-F, adding in a HIIT cardio after the gym on W and F. I'm damn near a saint on my diet six days a week and one day I do basically whatever I want. I don't even really crave bad stuff during the week. And when I started doing this my cheat days were INSANE but after recognizing that I would feel pretty terrible now it's not too crazy. Usually will treat myself to some things I like without getting nuts.

Pleased with the progress so far. Time and consistency are usually the missing ingredient. Just gotta stick with it.

Was losing a steady amount of weight the first couple of weeks but have hit a wall the last couple of weeks. I workout 5-6 days a week but am thinking about incorporating an outdoor run a couple of days out of the week and IMF.

Want to get to ~210 by end of April for my wedding!

Great progress so far. Keep it up.

Plateaus happen. Just remain consistent and you'll see results.

Make sure you are advancing on every single workout. One more rep on one set. 2.5 lbs more weight. Shave one second off of your time. Make it 10 yards further. Any win is a good win but advance EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I've definitely noticed that while I'm not losing weight as fast anymore my muscle gains are good. Replacing fat with muscle. The mirror is my friend finally.

I've been doing the 75-Hard challenge:
Started: 1/1/22
Completion: 3/17/22

2500 calories daily
  • No Sweets
  • No carbonation
  • No Alcohol
  • No dipping tobacco (the hardest part, honestly).
1 gallon of water daily
Two 45 minute workouts daily
10 pages from a book
15 minute quiet time

My workouts have been on a rotation of (each week I alternate the muscle groups with push/pull):
  • Ruck & Bis/Tris/Shoulders
  • Run & Ruck
  • Walk & Chest/Shoulders
  • Ruck & Back/Shoulders
  • Walk & Ashtanga Yoga
  • Walk & LEG DAY!
  • Walk & Walk

Consistent and detailed food, water and workout journal.

I didn't care much for not having a rest day, but working in days where I just walk or do yoga seems to be a good tradeoff. I have not been running as much, thanks to a reoccurring ankle injury from work; so intentional walks/rucks seem to be getting the job done for now.

Given some plateaus, I recently incorporated intermittent fasting (window 1000-1800 hrs) and 1500-2000 calories daily. Given my job, I allow for more calories on days that I am working (24 hr shift). Even in spite of the plateaus, I have been consistently adding smaller holes to my belt. My original goal was to fit in a suit that I bought on a visit to Korea (185-195 lbs at the time).

Post 75 hard plans include most of the notes above, except for one workout daily for a more intentional workout, a monthly cheat day, and a weekly diet Dr. Pepper. haha
