Ever since there was major turnover in leadership in the past few years the Rodeo has really declined. CHANGED
FIFY.

There has always been a fight for control between paid staff and the volunteers. Right now the new staff is trying to make their mark and attempting to take control over a lot of different committee stuff they have no business trying to.

Side notes from the release party last night: Bun B is really short, but a really cool dude. Coco Dominguez would absolutely get it, she is very attractive. Erica Rico is attractive as well. I have been to all of release parties since rodeo started doing them and last night was very blah. All the talk was of the leak and how it takes away from the party. I have a theory that it has come from a certain committee that gets the line up in December.

Lizzo would also make sense. Bet we see Beyonc/Drake/Lizzo as one of the 3 names left.

Not even sure which EDM name would get people excited...Calvin Harris, Diplo, Davis Guetta, Zedd?
Lizzo is one of the nights left.

I agree that Clint Black would have been good, but he is playing Indian casinos and crawfish festivals right now, don't think he could put as many butts in the seats as the rodeo would want.

Most promoters have rules that an artist can't play within a certain radius within a certain amount of time. I'm sure that is why Luke Combs isn't coming since he is at Toyota only a couple weeks later.

Most people don't give two shakes about the release party. If anything the "leaked" lineup creates more interest. People are more likely to look at a "leaked" lineup because they're not supposed to. If it was a regular release people would just look at it when they get a chance. As it is when they see it or hear about it being "leaked" their ears perk up.

Rodeo has turned into a government entity. It has so much momentum it takes a lot to get its direction changed. It has some really great leadership and has some really "meh" leadership.

In the end it serves the general public really well. As big as it is it'll never be perfect. It still does a whole lot of good despite whatever perceived shortcomings there may be.

I disagree, my phone started blowing up when the line up was officially released.

i agree with your macro view of rodeo, but I was talking more specifically about rodeo staff taking over stuff from committees that they have no business being involved in.

You're actively involved in Rodeo though and I'm guessing those texting are actively involved or wanting tickets to certain shows.

My point was the general public that makes up the large majority of attendance doesn't care as much as some people think.

A lot of the parties are for the committees and staff. The general public doesn't care and just wants to see the lineup. I get creating some hype and interest but I think the "leaked" lineup creates more general interest. I have no clue if it's intentional or not or if it's just an internal power struggle. I think "leaking" it creates way more interest than any party/social media feed could. At some point the "leak" will become stale but for now I think it creates an increased level of interest to Joe Q Public who doesn't pay a lot of attention to Rodeo until it's actually going on.

Yeah, the vast majority of people don't give two sh/ts about Rodeo and the inner workings, but this guy lives for it every year and thinks everyone should find it as important as he does.

I will play along bc I am bored

these stats disagree with with you.

Total attendance for all activities on the grounds, Feb. 21 23 (World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest) and Feb. 25 March 17, 2019 (Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo) reached 2,506,263.

  • Total economic impact: $227 million
  • Direct spending: $133 million
    • Includes hotels, food and beverages, entertainment, shopping and merchandise, horses and livestock, farm and ranch equipment, ground transportation and event spending
  • Total fiscal impact: $13 million
  • Direct jobs: 3,694
  • Total jobs supported in Greater Houston: 5,133
  • $27 million in Scholarships for the State of Texas

Now point me in the direction where I tell everyone what they should think rodeo is important....

I love these suburb cowboy rodeo threads.

I hope all you volunteers have the cavendars sale dates already marked on your calendars.

In no relation to the thread anybody have the numbers on the percentage of rodeo volunteers who drive a king ranch that only sees a dirt road less the 5 times a year? 97%?

Holy sheet. I just realized Midland is going to be playing Schroeder Hall one night and NRG the next. That's crazy as hell.

Schroeder Hall is in the middle of nowhere. It's at least a beer from Goliad and two beers from Victoria.

as much as I love Clint Black I would still place Midland over his popularity and ability to draw a crowd for the Houston Rodeo.

Clint is nothing more than a casino, and county fair act these days.

Ramon Ayala will be good. Too bad they couldn't get David Lee to join him for the night.

For one, I am most definitely not living in Sealy, or south of I10....and Secondly I hardly have to troll these threads anymore simply because the jokes write themselves now. I wouldn't even call it a troll now since most people (not you I guess) know that it is just a joke when I say one or two random rodeo posts these days. The rodeo shtick troll from me are not funny anymore. Even for me.
