Never heard of that. Do you have to replace yearly??

Freeze Misters work but I also go ahead and wrap the actual exposed faucet & Off/On valve with insulation as well. If not wrapped those can crack or bust due to ice.

For real? You just let it drip with a bucket or anything under?

I died six times over last 24 hours.

Alive and well but cold. Pool pump running and no problems there. Forgot to drain a decretive fountain so that waterfall iced over completely. Probably will kill that little pump.

Driveway gate has been wonky about closing the last two mornings. Hasn't happened before in the cold snaps. Gave a close force error. Figure the hydraulics are cold and sludgy maybe? Adding resistance enough that the sensor picks it up.

Looking forward to Spring next week and no more of this weather.

The pic I posted was offline not my actual faucets but doing a similar thing. All of my faucets are about 12 inches off the ground so not much room for a bucket.

No. This is the 3rd year I've used mine. I'm not sure of the life expectancy. I keep them in the freezer while not using them.

It looks like my freeze guard finally turned off my pool pump this afternoon. I'm hoping it's that and not the pump went out.

I don't trust that, even with a new pump. I just made a setting for this type of weather that I turn on and turn off myself. Says 26 degrees at my house. Would not want it to turn off.

I'm on my second year with mine. I don't wrap the faucet at all. And I store mine in the garage otherwise. Maybe that's a bad idea. They work great though.

And yes, I just let mine drip on the ground. They don't make much ice on the ground at all like I thought they would.

Sounds like it's getting baked in the sun so it's being tricked into it being warmer than it is.

What's the thought on keeping them in the freezer?

I've had ours three years. I just throw them into a little bin in the garage when it's warmer, basically have a cold weather prep kit in the garage with things like the misers, heat tape for water heater and pool plumbing, etc.
planoaggie123

I have similar....a bin that is about 95% filled with cold weather stuff including my freeze misers.

I only put mine in the freezer as i get ready to use them for the first time each season...that helps me be confident that they are still working...
PlanoAg98

Correct. When you put them on each time prior to the upcoming freezing temps, you want to see the unit open with flowing water/drips until the unit reaches above freezing temps and shuts off flowing water/drips.

I throw mine into "service" mode and run my two pumps 24/7 to avoid the on and off from fake temperature rises. There are times in the past it would turn on and off multiple times within an hour...cannot be good for motors and I would be nervous about re-start in the middle of a long cold spell.

The only reason I would ever really rely on freeze guard is if the weather occurs when I am out of town (i don't have app to control remotely).

If i see it is going to be like 34...i go to Service Mode so pumps won't turn on and off needlessly b/c my freeze guard is set for like 37 degrees.

Yep. Mine is south facing and when sun comes out during winter it's typically registering 5-10 degrees warmer than what it is. That said that's ok. You can let it turn off for 3-4 hours. But as someone said if it's coming on and off again a lot you don't want that.

Mine allows me to set at 35 to turn on but won't turn off till 37. So it doesn't do that very thing.

So who do we think did the best job predicting this latest round? I mainly just followed TSC.

Just got back from New Orleans. Wife says we haven't had hot water since yesterday morning. She put the space heater next to the tankless water heater which is mounted on an exterior wall. It's currently 57 in the garage. I went up in the attic and found a couple places where the hot water lines were missing insulation. Before covering the lines, I carefully set up a small space heater in the attic. Hopefully this works but I'll be battling colder temps tonight and I don't necessarily want to leave a space heater running in the attic while sleeping. I'm checking it every 20 minutes just to be safe.

After being in New Orleans and being on a plane, all I want to do is take a hot shower.

This is a pretty common problem with newer houses with that arrangement. Since tankless don't has residual heat, they freeze.

Don't have that arrangement, so not positive, but a space heater in that corner, safely used, might help.

Also remember that you can run some hot water from a sink in the "pencil stream" thickness and the heater won't turn on because it has a minimum flow requirement sensor.

Doesn't help this time, but maybe next time. Feel for you coming home to that.

Unfreeze a tankless Hot Water Heater. Close the gas valve. Open the hot water faucet that is closest to the water heater. Use a hair dryer or a portable electric heater to heat up both the primary and secondary heat exchangers

Damnit! Yesterday, the high was 36F. I planned on quitting work early at 4pm to go watch the Aggie baseball game out in the backyard gazebo under the patio heaters. At least the wind is staying low @ ~ 5 mph. It's the wind that really gets you in these cold temps.

Got just warm enough today that the warm water finally started flowing a little better and could take a shower. Bring on the 60/70s already. Sun coming out today for just a little bit would have been nice…

Above freezing. Thank heavens. Pool is off and will remain off until Monday. Just going to run the pool robot (battery powered) tomorrow to clean the floor off and circulate a little water. Tired of hearing and seeing it run.

Next to do this morning is wash the car.

Played golf starting at 10am (Sherrill Park). Beautiful day. Stripped down to shorts by #6. The ponds were frozen to where you could roll a ball entirely across them

Welp have a diverter that cracked. Also have a really slow drip from Polaris pump at the connection to motor. Crazy bc I sucked the pumps with a vacuum and they were completely dry. Might be a gasket on the pump but guess I learned my lesson it's impossible to get all the water out.
