One of our neighbors went down this morning and talked to the house in question. They had no idea they needed to turn off the sprinklers if it's going to be freezing.

Noon model runs have sleet and wintry mix starting from Austin north to Hillsboro area on Wednesday afternoon. Everyone in NTX below freezing before sundown Wednesday.

And a foot of snow between Thursday - Friday for parts of the metroplex, with an average of half a foot for all of the north Texas weather area (NWS-Fort Worth's area of responsibility).

Some freaking morons in our neighborhood ran their sprinklers this morning. Thanks for the ice in the road!
Had one house in our neighborhood that did this this morning.

They just moved here from overseas, guess they never had cold over there.

The Indians down the street from us did it as well.....they are not plugged into anything local

Safe to assume no school for the kids on Friday.

Wouldn't be surprised if Thursday is thrown in as well if the heavier stuff is supposed to come morning/mid-day Thursday

or Thursday.

Expect winter storm watches to go out tonight by the NWS.

School districts to make the call Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Jim Cantore officially coming to DFW to cover this Thursday-Friday, another promising data point

If we start seeing precip on Wednesday afternoon and/or evening I'd bet we see schools close widely on Thursday and pretty soon thereafter on Friday.

Can you explain the Jim Cantore and Reed Timmer piece? Seeing those on POW's FB page and everybody is freaking out now.

Cantore is the main weather reporter for the Weather Channel. He always goes where the big weather is expected and modeled to be to cover it. If he's coming to your town there's big weather coming.

Reed Timmer - he's a big storm chaser (usually tornados and hurricanes). He's got a significant social media following, and similar to Jim, if he shows up in your town that usually means you've got a big weather event coming.

Latest model runs and NWS Fort Worth update has DFW metro and surrounding counties catching anywhere from eight to thirteen inches of snow Thursday - Thursday night.

That's just crazy amount of snow. With the temps it's gonna melt and freeze and compact. This won't be soft snow.

When yall drain your pool to you go below your skimmer basket or all the way down below the returns?

Below skimmers.

When we had icemaggedon and lost power, top layer of pool iced over and cracked both my skimmers.

I also fill up some water bottles half full with antifreeze, tape the lids, and then throw into the pool. Last two years of freezes kept pool from completely freezing top layer as ice crushes the bottle but never gets through the antifreeze.

i honestly just drain the equipment (plugs from pumps, filters, etc).

For draining pool itself, I guess then you would just run your pump with filter set to waste until it gets to desired level??

Thanks. Not sure this will be that type of freezing event.

That's what I'm on fence about. It may snow a ton. But if it's only 28-32 that's not really a big concern.

Biggest risk to pools will be if equipment freezes up. Power outages could also be a problem - don't think this will be a heavy icing situation, but if the models are right then a large part of Texas will be below freezing and Ercot has already said there will have to be rolling power outages if so.

635 had trucks out this morning starting to lay treatment down. Very curious to see how the highways handle it.

Gonna be driving back to Dallas from a business trip to CS on Thursday morning. Should hit town around noon, any advice aside from "don't"?

Latest modeled snowfall - probability of over 6" of snow.

I need this to hold off until at least 7AM Thursday. I'll be driving from South Oak Cliff to Richardson then.

Just saw that. And a 10-20% chance of 12 or more inches. That would be insane.

Wonder what the likelihood of pushing back the Cotton Bowl to Saturday will be.
I'd imaging a lot of flights may be disrupted Thursday/ early Friday and that's a lot of people driving around Thursday pm and Friday am.

Likey not bc they need the stadium for the Cowboys in the playoffs.

Jerry probably has a car show or sumo wrestling booked in the stadium the next day.

Cowboys are definitely at home throughout the playoffs.

Weather Underground, which currently shows right at ten inches of snow for Thursday, shows a greater than 90% chance of snow starting at 7 AM. Hopefully it will stall a bit for your sake.

They would have to do it early Saturday to avoid TV conflicts with NFL playoff games.

Was planning to book a long weekend in Angel Fire so my little kids can do some snow play this winter.
