Y'all should've seen the people hit the banks when someone said it's a copperhead. Me being the expert I am, I told them it's a blotched water snake. It was aggressive but what do expect when rocks are getting thrown at you.
Busted a few large rat snakes either in or trying to get into the chicken house but outside that it's been slow.

Found in the wild of Milam County. Not 100% sure what I'm looking at but have a feeling. Would like a for sure ID.
Looks like a timber to me.
This is what I thought. I've never seen one around here before.

I've got a question for you experts here. I read or heard somewhere that the Timber rattlers venom varies by latitude I think. That farther south the venom is hemotoxinous while farther north it's more neurotoxinous.
Do I need to quit that information source permanently?
There's some truth to that. A friend of mine lead a study on that and he found that the venom does vary quite a bit over their range (all of the eastern US) and that the most potent animals are from north Florida and East Texas/West Louisiana. The head size even correlates. So don't get bit by one in Texas!

He froze in the second pic as we approached. Gently Tossed the rock which landed on his back but he didn't strike at it, just kept his mouth open and his tail moving as if he had rattles.
