Cool! Wondering if those are lizard eggs? Seem a little big but too small for turtle eggs. Maybe another snakes eggs?
This little guy joined my buddy on his back porch last night.
Incredible! Great shot. Texas patchnose snake eating what I presume are Texas spiny lizard eggs.
how does that work? they just puncture the shells and suck out the innards ?
I think they do pierce the egg if they can but it is swallowed whole. They either digest or crap out the egg shell.
Most likely digest. I don't notice any bones from the mice in my snake's scat. Some fur once in a great while.

Are turtles laying eggs right now? I ran up on one while mowing who wasn't moving but when it finally did it revealed a hole and what looked to be freshly moved dirt.

Awesome. I will have to show my kids. Hopefully I didn't ruin the whole thing for the turtle. Will she come back to her spot? I purposefully didn't run over the area where the hole was.
Sidenote, but when I was in Costa Rica the wife and I were walking in the beach and walked up on a sea turtle laying her eggs that was really cool.

That is not the typical coloring we are used to seeing for a cottonmouth. Assume we typically see western that more more gray in color? Are northern cottonmouth prevalent in SE texas?
The recent split of cottonmouths ("Northern" and "Florida") is a dumb one.
We have pretty standard looking western (old nomenclature) cottonmouths throughout Texas. I'm not sure there's much regional diversity in the state, just more or less light and dark individuals scattered throughout their range.

Based on region (Florida Panhandle) I think it's an Eastern / Common Garter Snake. Checkered are more in the SW US region.
