Rat snek? Please tell me it's a rat snek.

Probably 4' long chillin on the cusp of my garage. I managed to turn him around though he seemed to want to go into the garage for cover. Then he disappeared into the front flower bed while I tried to grab my long grabber thingy.

10-4 - we have bad skunks in our neighborhood, they've gotten the dogs before. Think these guys do work keeping their numbers down.

I have a hard time imagining a rat snake eating an adult skunk. A smaller juvenile one? Maybe?

I know a 5-5.5 rattlesnake will eat a full size cotton tail and considering rat snakes can get pretty big, I imagine they'll be able to take down bigger prey. Not sure their hunting style is the same though and think they stick more to rats, birds, and squirrels.

Not an expert though…

NP. I have tons of useless knowledge. Probably why I'm working on a 2nd masters degree for no real reason other than to learn and be able to teach adjunct when I'm 70 (plus, don't have to pay for classes).

This... Nerodia erythrogaster. I'd call that one a blotched water snake based on appearance, but it's pretty much subjective.
