How has no one suggested killing the fox and making an awesome mount, similar to the classic bobcat mount?

Because the I think everyone is rooting for another type of cat to be mounted.

TeamFox is winning 87-7 as of 9am 7/11/18. That's a 12.42-1 lead... teamcat really has some ground to cover to even make this poll close...

I just saw this thread and only read the first page, but I had no idea that it was even possible to have a 'fox problem.'

Forget the cat, I want to see what the OP would look like mounted with his head sticking out of a log.

I do not recommend doing a google image search for "mounting a cougar" on your work computer.

I always thought Megan Fox was one of the hottest women alive. Then once she became a bigger celebrity, her trashy side really came out.... getting horrible tattoos, sleeping around. So that's really a bonus.

In semi-related news the animated classic The Fox & The Hound was released 37 years ago yesterday.

1. Read Old Yeller
2. Recreate the end of Old Yeller with your cat
3. Give the dead cat to the fox a token of your respect for mother nature.
4. Buy a dog.

Everybody wins.

So I made post on gb a couple weeks back about a fox in my neighborhood having standoff with my cat ,today they spotted the fox chasing my cat and I want him eliminated or taken care of before he hurts my cat.. How should I tackle this problem , by trying to bait him and trap or should I just call pest control ?
After a 2nd read, a problem solving step been incorrectly taken:
STEP 1: identify the problem.

Quote:

eliminate <fox> or taken care of (fox) before he hurts my cat

Problem identification is INCORRECT:; cause a dead cat is nobodies problem....ever. A dead cat only presents a rare problem-less solution, can see especially now with internets:

problem-less solution

Nothing to tackle, no problem to pose for OB to solve.

Does the same issue affect other animals as well? Like coons and armidillos.

Keep in mind, except for very specific management objectives, you will rarely if ever see me endorse relocation. Considering one of the biggest rabies outbreaks seen in the eastern US started with 3 or 4 raccoons getting relocated out of Atlanta. Well intentioned, but spread from Georgia to Maryland. If you feel the need to trap it, kill it, my message on the matter on the OB has never changed in 10 plus years.

The spread of armadillos is effectively the result of relocations. Prior to the development of the interstate system, armadillos were not really found north of San Antonio (I have the exact date in a presentation, but a bit brain fried as I thumb type) in great numbers.....they typically do alright.

Keep in mind, until a year or so ago, coyotes, foxes and raccoons legally could not be relocated of the point trapped property by John Doe Citizen. Coons had a little flexibility for education permits. Foxes recently got a bit of flexibility with relocation through a rehabber. Coyotes are still a no go.....note no mention of skunks, which is flatout stupid (biggest risk in Texas, and there are people that will relocate them...stupid).

Raccoon in particular do VERY poorly with relocation. Like 75%+ will be dead within 2 weeks of being relocated. They are extremely territorial and have a strong homing sense. Within 24 hours of being released, they are headed home. A high percentage of roadkill raccoons are relocated coons headed home.

Ironically, I am overseeing the relocation of a large number of non-migratory waterfowl. They have created a significant public health issue (we'll just say there are about 65 animals on s 2.3 acre pond....standard for maintaining water quality is ~2 per acre). I have been addling eggs for 2 months, so we have NO nesting success. Political will is not there put them down (my preference), sooooo they are going where nature will take its course pretty quickly.

Just now found this thread.

It deserves to be brought back to the top.

Personally, I like cats, and we had many here in the wilds of NM. We lost some each year, that was part and parcel of the local environment.

But several died of old age.

Anyway, I think it was owls that got most of them, not coyotes, or foxes.

I'd like to have a few more just to keep the rodents down, but I am gone too much of the time now.

Just found this thread - highly entertained.

My wife is a cat person.... I am not. We have had 8 cats all indoor/outdoor.

We currently have 2 cats.

Nature makes sure that we never have more than 2 for long. Whenever we get a third; one gets killed.

I've found some remains/fur of all of them except 1.

Cody - hit by car
Dusty - eaten by coyotes he was 12 a very savvy cat
Oliver - eaten by coyotes
Buddy - disappeared
Gracie - eaten by coyotes
Frank - eaten by coyotes
Sully - a very wise mostly outdoor cat he has lived to 8 years old
Boo - an abandoned feral and somewhat MR cat is 4 and mostly indoor now

I suppose I could do something about the coyotes but honestly if I did we'd have 8 cats so........

Every night I check for the cat(s) before I got to bed to bring them in, but if they aren't home..... good luck.

I just finished having a new vegetable garden installed at our new home. Neighbor across the street let's her cat roam... I have caught it spraying my bbq grill ( thank goodness it is covered and I can spray wash it down) twice, and now I am finding cat poop in the fresh sandy loam I brought in for the garden.

I have asked her to not let the cat roam because I do.not want her cats poop around my fresh veggies when I plant next spring nor do I want my grill to smell like cat pee. Her response , "oh my cat would never do that... he just stretches his legs." I did give fair warning I would put out live capture traps next spring and any cats caught will be taken to city pound. Her face went blank after that. Oh well, we do have some foxes running around in early morning. Maybe one of them will get to the cat in the trap before I do.

No. Ironically, the Carrollton egret issue launched me to bigger things. I will say that every city that has followed the model has successfully killed the issue in following years. Cities that have piece milled the recommendations have regretted it.

I'm actually teaching a municipal wildlife management course in Indianapolis at a national conference in Sept. I'm specifically covering coyotes, feral hogs,.....and cattle egrets (hate those damn birds) as case studies.

Ironically, I got selected when the conference program director (park guy out of Denver) asked if could cover bears during the Q&A portion. That is a big issue for the western city park systems. Next thing I know I go from having a simple "Wild Hog Control on Municipal Properties", to having a whole session. Catch is I only have 1.5 hours. I can do 1.5 hours on any one of those 4 species in my sleep. So I have to boil it down........"Don't feed the animals" covers most of the issue, feral hogs and egrets throw a bit of a link in that, but not much.

Some of you are just flat out dicks when it comes to cats. Had that cougar nailed your prized retriever you'd be singing a different tune. Since when is the middle of a city a "fos's habitat", and why is its eating of lizards, rodents, birds, etc....so much more beneficial?

you need to lighten up francis.

you ever tried to coral a cat that really wants to go out and yowls incessantly.... or tried to leash them or keep them in the yard.

i can protect my dogs easier..... cats are on their own... which is how they want it.

Except as OP finally admitted, it was more feral and less cat.

He is not feral. He is neutered. He is an indoor/outdoor cat. And he is free to roam as he pleases. Most of the time he is lounging on the front porch or in the bushes. The fox on the other hand has been spotted all over the hoood
