I think it's both.

They use 16# class in the tournaments IIRC but IFGA will allow up to 20#. It definitely forces you to fight the fish on the drag and the rod.

Plus, I think it's the tradition of it.

So, I am watching Silver Kings and they are fishing the Gold Cup. Is it just the honor system or do you take pictures?

A tarpon was always on my fishing bucket list, even as a kid, then I started fly fishing which led to redfish on a fly and now a tarpon on a fly is top of my list. I watch the SK series quite a bit. One day!

It is a life changing experience. I know that sounds dramatic, ya it's a little much, but as far as your FISHING LIFE goes; it's life changing. Getting bit by the tarpon bug just leaves you planning everything else around the next opportunity to be in the same place tarpon are. Lots of people catch tarpon and aren't bit by the bug - but if you ever get the tarpon bug, look out.

If you're remotely into fly fishing and get the chance to go after tarpon you will be changed.

I compared jumping (not even catching) your first tarpon to the first time you have sex. You know it's gonna be awesome but you don't really know how awesome it's gonna be. It's over way too quickly, and when it is over you're left jacked on adrenaline, breathing heavily, a little weak in the knees, and all you know is that you want to do it over and over again.

Did you book your trip with Sandy's son through Florida Keys Outfitters? One of the members of the Laguna Madre Fly Fishers was there this weekend with his son and fished with one their guides, Capt Rick Carl. They caught a 120 and 180. Must have been the week to be there!

Yeah, I booked through the shop. I tried to get Fordyce but he was booked so they booked me with Drew. Evidently I impressed him because he said if I wanted to come down during the migration he'd make room for me.

And he's booked 250+ days per year.

Bump...The tarpon were in rare form today. They were super aggressive and wanted a fast retrieve. The faster, the better. I had to haul casts in with the fly skipping or creating a wake just under the surface. They went crazy for it, but were too uncoordinated to connect most of the time. But if I slowed down, they lost interest.

I caught 3, but missed 2 dozen+ bites. I tried strip sets, sweeping sets, bass style, and doing nothing. No technique was very effective; the fish would jump and throw the fly immediately. They usually came back or i could get another strike on the next cast. It was an awesome day on the water.

I'm on uverse and I don't have the Destination America channel. Just set the dvr and the first episode I get is on Jan 6 on NBCSN.

Silver kings website says that they were supposed to start airing on NBCSN on Dec. 30th. Must have been old info or something.

Silverkings is sticking to it -Today @ 3 on NBCsN even if the program guide shows 'English Premier League Soccer' during that time slot. Time for some Manuel recording.

The silverkingstv instagram has a different start date. I think it said 1/2/16 for Destination America and 1/6 for nbcsn.

Silver kings updated their website since I last looked. I wonder if they got bumped a week because of the limeys.

Jan 2 it is then. I was surprised that another network would get the jump on the Destination channel since that was the original home of the show.

A lot of the IG and other social media posts through the year would lead you to believe that they spent a lot of time on the BlueMoon Expeditions mothership in the glades. I presume they will follow the tournament fishing too later in the season.

Well in the meantime yall talk me out of a project panga. I really like the imemsa w 25 hulls, but new ones go for $10k which seems too high to me. This used one has been for sale in Houston since the summer and it's come down from their original asking prices of $8k.

Scientific angler redfish 8wt right now, but I picked up some SA grand slam 9wt cheap on sierra trading post to see if I can slow down my 8wt axiom some. I should have gotten a slower rod for better accuracy in close quarters since I fish the marsh often.

What kind of fishing do you typically do and what are you hoping to get out of the line change?
