Stray was a fun little Indy game... slow paced puzzle solver. Took 5 hours to run through it. Free on PS+ so definitely worth it.

I've settled on Hell Is Us. Pretty cool game on PS Plus right now. Can tell they took some features from Elden Ring (or other Souls games), but thankfully not the extreme learning curve. It's kind of a hard core topic though. Two opposing groups in a historical fiction version of Czech Republic basically trying to genocide one another and then throw in an alien / monster element on top of that.

Anyone tried Wolverine on PS5 yet? I thought I would get it as soon as it came out, but the reviews seem to be mixed. Sounds like maybe the game was rushed a little and not near as long as the Spiderman games. If so, I'll probably wait until it goes on a major sale.

I have started playing Wardogs. It's pretty fun with a good squad. I'm curious how long it will hold the player base's attention.

I just started Wolverine on PS5. I'm enjoying it so far. I can see the hate it got but i also enjoy this sort of linear game.

I think the best description I heard was lazy. It's just not what you'd expect from a dev that has hit so many home runs.

But I can very much appreciate a well done linear game. Not every game needs to be a 30+ hour open world marathon.

Wolverine isn't lazy at all. I think I'm around halfway through it right now and it is a SUPERB game and something you would expect from Insomniac. It's around 15-20 hours long from what I hear, which is pretty close to Spider-Man in terms of length. The side content isn't as significant though there are challenge rooms to mix things up.

If you enjoy classic God of War + Uncharted meets Superhero game, you will absolutely love this game. It is paced so well thus far and feels like it's non-stop high octane, similar to the videogame equivalent of mad max fury road. Though it does have some softer/slower moments sprinkled in between.

I don't understand some of the hate at all. It's not a game that shakes up the industry by reinventing what it is to be a game, but honestly what game does that these days other than something like GTA? Plenty of examples of similar types of game this year but weren't criticized nearly as heavily.

I actually find Wolverine to be BETTER than Spider-Man 2, but it's going to depend a lot on what you value in a game.

  • The characters, story, and writing are greatly improved in Wolverine vs SM2 (though some may prefer the more lighthearted tone in SM2; wolverine is more mature in comparison)
  • I prefer the combat of Wolverine - it's much more in your face, visceral, cinematic, and violent. It is awesome to look at. Their animation is top notch. Especially when you get combo's from side characters thrown in the mix. It's a game that rewards you for pushing through rather than playing in a timid fashion. It's extremely aggressive and fun.
  • Traversal in Wolverine is actually really great, but they could have gone a bit further with it
However, it is a linear game with some wide-linear environments at times. Spider-Man 2 is open world and focuses more on traversal. To me, this isn't a big deal though some people will obviously prefer the structure of SM2. I don't really play SM2 for the web slinging around the city as much as I do to engage with combat, fight bosses, and witness the spectacle. And all of those latter features are abundant in Wolverine.

Bottom line, if you loved something like 007 you will absolutely love Wolverine as well (IMHO)

You sold me here as someone who just played both these games for first time in last year. Incredible games.

I would categorize Hell Is Us as a linear game with wide linear environments as well. It's frankly a little refreshing after playing massive open world games. A good change-up ahead of GTA6.

I love Uncharted (probably my all time favorite series) and God of War. I may download Wolverine this weekend. I also really want to try 007 but haven't gotten around to it. I may get it when it goes on sale. I have plenty of games to get through before I start buying more, even though a lot of new games are coming out that catch my eye.

GTA 6 is going to be a day one buy for me. Been playing GTA since PS1.

Agreed! I don't think you will be disappointed whatsoever if you love those style of games.

Thanks for the recommendation on Hell is Us. I have always been interested in the game but haven't checked it out yet, and I see that it's now on Playstation Plus so I will need to give it a go here this fall.

The videos of Wolverine playing itself in the motorcycle and QTE sections are pretty damning, imho

At this point I'm pretty much just waiting for GTA VI. I think I might give Gears of War a go in a few weeks, but outside of that, I'm just messing around with games I've already beaten and my retro games.

Man, Hell Is Us is pretty damn cool. I'm probably not going to describe this well or very accurately, but it plays like a less difficult Souls game with original Resident Evil 1 like puzzles.

Really enjoying it.

That's on PS+.... hmmm.... might have to give that a go.
