Downloaded the free 5 hour trial of Death Stranding 2 on PS Plus. Oh yes, I'm already hooked here. For anyone who hasn't played the first one or this one, it's just stunningly beautifully and well done.

DS is a game that completely surprised me. Tried it because it was free (PS+), stayed because it was awesome. The story is bonkers, but once you sorta start to understand it, it makes the long walks even better.

One of the side quests I did involved backpaking a girl to her long lost love (was a pretty long hike). I'm not one to read everything, but I happened to read emails from them... they got married... they broke up... regret... back together. LOL... crazy game.

I think / hope I'm just about done with FFXVI. They story is solid all around, and the game has more than enough epic moments to keep you invested. But 35 hours in and the standard swordplay making your way through combat zones has gotten stale. Time to stop getting distracted by side-quests and finish it.

Would I enjoy the FF VII remakes if I enjoyed this one?

Ditto. I remember that quest. So funny. They were madly in love and wanted to be reunited and then a few days later they are sick of each other and break up. Ha.

For a game that is essentially one big fetch quest simulation, it's incredible. The bonkers story sucked me in and I spent an inordinate amount of time rebuilding roads well beyond the point that I really needed to.

If you think that was bonkers, just wait. DS 2 gets weird.

Because making grenades out of Norman Reedus's poop & pee wasn't weird enough!?!

The teaser videos look strange to say the least. I just started it yesterday and only made it to the first bandit camp near home. Very sad to leave Lou behind though. I assume that's not permanent.

I'll just say that I have never had a "what the heck is going on?" moment quite like I did towards the end of this game. Not a spoiler, but once you get to that point, you will know.

What's funny is that I never knew what BT stood for until I started DS2 and watched the recap of DS1 on the DS2 start screen. I don't think that was every actually defined in the first game. You just kind of moved along not ever really knowing what was really happening.

Back to living on the rim in Rimworld. FFXIV and WoW still, otherwise.

Love idea of this game but it looks overwhelming.

Does take a fair bit of patience. It's not that the interface is difficult to understand or that it is overly punishing (several options for difficulty), but more that you must get comfortable with starting fresh. I have hundreds of hours in it and I'm still learning new and better ways to do things.

I talked myself into doing the same. I dumped enough kickstarter money into it way back when they were crowdfunding it to get my name in the credits haha. I've got just under 700 hours in it but I haven't touched it since I got my fill of the Forgotten Gods expansion, so it's been pre-covid since I played. Haven't gotten to any of the new expansion content yet since I rolled a new character, but having a great time with the game again.

Grounded is awesome and super underrated. I had a really fun play through with my son last summer and we played quite a bit before it left Early Access and hit 1.0

Everything about it. The story, the art style, the voice acting, the general late 80's/early 90's aesthetic, the music, the gameplay, the kitschy "Minotaurs & Myrmadons" and Yolked Girth type toys that you find scattered in the yard.

We dabbled in Grounded 2 when it first came to Early Access, but ran into a content wall pretty quickly. I think we are going to start fresh when the Into The Abyss update comes out in mid-August. It will have opened up quite a bit more of the map since we last played.

Someone made a new Goldeneye/Perfect Dark game and it's frikin awesome. Been looking for a splitscreen multi-player game for a good long while and this is gonna scratch multiple itches for me.

I've had this on my wishlist for so long, can't wait to check it out. I think they delayed it for like a year to add co-op and multiplayer because of how overwhelmed with positive feedback they got from an early demo.

Yeah I had a blast with the demo, wish listed it and refreshed the store page like 10 times today waiting for it to launch. I bought the Xbox version of the goldeneye remake pretty quick a couple years ago and now stoked to have something like it on my SteamDeck.

I've been working through my ps5 backlog lately and taking a break from wow. Finished horizon zero dawn last month and about halfway through ghosts of tsushima.

Probably have time for 1 or 2 more big games before GTA6. All would be first time playthru except partial playthroughs for rdr2 and Lou part 1.

Witcher 3
RDR2
Cyberpunk
Spiderman 2
Black flag resynced (would need to purchase but very intrigued)
Uncharted 3 and 4
Last of us both parts. Already know the story from the show.

Not sure how to pick what's next.

I thoroughly enjoyed Horizon Zero Dawn (never played the second one), Last of Us, the entire Uncharted series, Cyberpunk, Witcher 3, and RDR 2. In fact, Witcher 3 and RDR 2 are some of my favorite games of all time.

Others I have really enjoyed:
Claire Obscure Expedition 33
Days Gone
Crimson Desert
Allen Wake 2 (still need to go back and finish this one)
Baldur's Gate 3 (another one of my favorites)

Edit to say that after rereading your post, I agree with what has been said below. Witcher 3 is the answer.

I'm just wrapping up horizon zero dawn now. Way better than I was expecting. Will probably jump right into forbidden west. Incidentally I am planning on moving on to Ghost of Tsu after that.

What an embarrassment of riches. I've played all in bold.

If you only have 1 game in you before GTA6, then you go all-in on Witcher 3 with all of the DLC to boot and has the best mini-game of all time.

Damn jealous.

The combat and world is a lot of fun, but it was the story that really pulled me in.

Agree with this. Witcher 3 is incredible. Given your list of the types of games you like, you should definitely go with that one next. You won't regret it.

I just hope everyone ending up in my instance of Death Stranding 2 appreciates my militant focus on building roads and the monorail. My Likes count seems to be a little light, IMO.

Starting to feel like Redstone when people on here don't blue star him enough.

Just don't get to Rocky level of crashout and I don't think people will notice too much.

Still churning through some Grim Dawn with the latest expansion. Started all over with a new character. Then another one. Then another…. And so it goes for ARPGs. It's just too good.

I'm at the end of FF XVI... struggling to finish this one. It's too dang long for a (mostly) linear action RPG. I've really enjoyed the game and looking forward to the conclusion, but it's around 15-20 hours too long.

Witcher 3 is the best of those with Cyberpunk just slightly behind. The thing I prefer about those 2 is that your decisions have impacts to the story. In the PS games the stories are cool and all but it is on rails for the most part. You can play through witcher with different choices and it changes a lot of the story.

That being said I would do Spiderman 2 first as it is more compact and is a great game in general. By the time you get towards the end of Witcher in a year or so the new DLC will come out.

I think Cyberpunk would be a great shake up from what you've been playing. Coming from Horizon and then Ghost of Tsushima, you've been playing a lot of 3rd person RPGs, and coming from a 3rd person RPG with sword combat.

Cyberpunk is COMPLETELY different from what you've been experiencing whereas the Witcher 3 is basically just a better version of both of those other games. It's controls also are not near as responsive as either of the others you've finished playing, so it will take time to get used to how the combat feels.

Cyberpunk is 1st person, in a cyberpunk world, and offers a COMPLETE different style of gameplay. The combat is so snappy and fast, while also offering a slower playstyle if you prefer to go the netrunner route.

Granted, I'm a Cyberpunk 2077 fanboy and consider it the best game on your list.
