I never played the original series, but sci-fi + fantasy + pixelated sprites a la Octopath has me seriously considering this one.

I've got some work travel coming up and I always like deep RPGs for those times when I can post up on a flight or at a hotel and let myself get sucked in for hours on end.

Depends on games you like. There is a Zelda pack, Mario kart, etc

Any reviews of Mario RPG? I absolutely loved this one as a kid and had totally forgotten it. Thinking you'd might be a good grab for Christmas

Yes, it is a good game. Very faithful to the original with updated music and graphics and some new features.

Got my son a Switch OLED for Christmas. Any must have accessories other than a case and extra joy con controllers?

Screen protector not a bad idea if you think your kid will be rough with it or you plan to be on the go a lot. Not sure about the OLED version, but the old Switch had a screen less resilient to scratching than your average cel phone.

MicroSD card so you can do digital versions of games and not have to keep switching between cartridges. Also, there are a lot of great indie games in the Nintendo shop.

Maybe this was covered earlier in the thread - can someone please explain Nintendo Switch Online to me like I am an old person who has no idea what the internet is?

What purpose does this serve if it's me and a 9 year old with 2 Switch consoles? Do I have to have 2 copies of every game if we want to play co-op on different switches? Can I have one physical and one digital download? Can they play the digital download games I bought on my device on their device if they use the main profile?

I am so confused by the information I am finding online. Does a family account make sense for my situation, or should I just do an individual?

I think the paid switch online is necessary for someone on one switch to play with someone on another switch, whether they are in the same room or across the globe

But you can also just get multiple controllers and a tv to have multiple people play a game together on a single switch in the same room.

If you own multiple switches, I assume a profile can only operate on one switch at a time. So you couldn't buy Zelda (physical or online) and have 2 switches play that single purchase of Zelda at the same time.

-Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket (Mobile)
-Pokemon Legends Z-A (No Footage!)

People are going nuts for Pokemon Legends Z-A because the Switch 2 is rumored to launch in March of 2025 and Z-A launches in 2025. No footage would mean it's for the Switch 2. Also the Pokemon Company tweeted that it will launch on "Nintendo Switch systems in 2025!"

My take... I've played almost every main line Pokemon game. When a new system comes out... Pokemon comes out the same year on the old system. It takes like 1 or 2 years before it hits the new system from system release. Also the trailer has the Switch Intro so it's gonna be for the Switch. I think them not releasing any footage was done because everyone would dunk on it in light of Palworld.

Release dates announced for the The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel (4/3/26), Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (5/23/24), and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD (6/27/24).

My wife is pregnant with our third, so she asked me to buy her a Switch for when she's feeling like sh** and doesn't want to get out of bed. Of course I jumped at the opportunity and bought one ASAP, just went with the white OLED version. Looking forward to reading this thread for game recs! I'm already going to do whatever necessary to play Zelda OoT for nostalgia.

What is the preferred way to play games. Download digitally? Buy through a service? Buy at a store?

I've always been a physical media guy. I buy most of my games physically, and maybe 20% digital for indies like Hollow Knight and Ori.

As for OoT, you'll need to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online, where you can play NES, SNES, and N64 games. (OoT, Majora's Mask, GoldenEye, among others.)
