No discount for in store like other Switch games? Amazon has the physical copy for $54.99 so you can price match.

Well my 1st grader had a special day that he earned at school where he was able to take a stuffy (stuffed animal) to school and an electronic device to school, so this morning I took him to Walmart early to surprise him (7am, they open at 6am) and tried to get him the physical copy so he can play with his buddies at school. I had just enough time to get the copy, get it in the switch, and drop him off at school on time.

Unfortunately, the employees in Electronics said something about how they couldn't put them on shelf yet or something....the SKU wouldnt scan yadda yadda...good opportunity to teach that disappointment is part of life, but I felt kind of stupid my plan didnt work. Sent him off to school, but I told him I'd go back and we could get it after school.

Go back at lunch, its sitting on shelf, but its 59.99. Didnt ask about it, but the previous title I bought on launch day (Metroid Dread) had the 49.99 label so... not sure.

eta: just went to walmart.com and its selling for 54.97 with an "add to cart to see price". I already bought it digital so it downloads as soon as he connects to wifi. Id rather pay the $5 to never allow the possibility that he loses the cart, to be honest

Not surprised to see BOTW2 delayed, especially after Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were announced for a late 2022 release.

Twilight Princess is such a massively underrated game. If they release a port of it, I'm buying it right when it comes out.

Majoras mask on Switch would be great. It was fun to play on the 3DS but I'd like to play a remastered console version.

I'm thinking about getting my almost 7 year old a Switch.

Is the oled model the one to go with for $350, or is the $300 regular version? I figured the new oled model is probably worth the slightly higher price in the long run.

What accessories not included are must haves?

Are you able to play off-line primarily?

And what are some recommended games for a 7 year old? I'm thinking a Mario game (3D world, odyssey, or something else?), or Mario kart, or sports? Minecraft? I could definitely use recommendations here.

Yea, Odyssey and Kart are good starters. Throw in Minecraft since that helps with creativity.

Accessories should be a case and tempered glass screen protector. Get a 250 or 400 gb microSD.

The console takes USB C for charging so for on the go I recommend getting a 20W Anker Brick and USBC to USBC cable. It comes with a charger but that will stay with the dock.

I have a 7 year old as well.

I would spring for the OLED version. My son plays a ton in the car and for $50 having a bigger and more vibrant screen is worth it, i'd say.

Almost all of these games are 2 player Co-op as well so you can get into the action and teach him how to play if this is his first console.

I've been playing Luigi's Mansion 3 with my 5 year old and we both love it.

Parent of another 7 year old boy here. Would agree with Mario Kart, Mario Odyssey, and Luigi's Mansion. Breath of the Wild also good for problem solving, but a bit more violent and gory also.

Yea, all the Mario games will be good for that age. I still enjoy a few rounds with my youngest at times.

In addition to the Mario and Zelda games, Pokemon and Animal Crossing have been big hits with my kids.

Totally buying this when the kid comes home for the summer

Purchased Kirby as my new airplane game. I played less than an hour and haven't come back to it yet. It seems like a rehash of Mario, but more mindless and much less novel. Disappointed so far.

Other than the gimmicky leg holster, looks exactly like Wii Sports which launched 16 years ago.

If you're going to complain about decade-old ports that Nintendo sells for full price, you shouldn't own a Switch.

That's honestly one of my biggest things I dont like about the switch -- the lack of new and exclusive games.

You would with all the success this company has had, they would take a risk or two. It would be nice to see a new IP. Miyamoto turns 70 this year. I thought he was older

Yeah, I agree. My son still loves it and so do I. Nintendo has never been all about cutting edge graphics. It's all about the gameplay, the story, the imagination.

I just wish they chose those core tenets going forward instead of "let's re-release good titles from our failed console 10 years ago and charge 59.99 again". There are certainly games that would be OK doing that, but it seems to be a large percentage of their overall Switch strategy, which is disappointing.
