Not yet but definitely planning on it after finishing up Age of Calamity. It's amazing how much better it looks visually.

Skyward Sword grab you pretty early? My kid is a BOTW fanatic (first Zelda game), but for whatever reason he couldn't get into WW or TP. Want to get this for him but wonder if he is going to lose interest quickly like the others. Thinking maybe the unique controls will help...seems like opinions vary but may appeal to a 9 year old.

My gf is enjoying it but has commented a few times it's nowhere near as good as BoTW which is accurate, IMO. If you've played BOTW the others will seem dated. In my humble opinion a 9 year old would get bored with skyward sword, especially dealing with the controls.

I loved Skyward Sword in 2011.

I think it just depends on if your son is absolutely attached to the idea of an open-world, which this is not. If he enjoys games with a good story and nice visuals, I think he'll enjoy it.

Plus swinging your sword with a joycon is just fun. I've never understood the complaints about the controls myself.

Agreed. I loved that one.

I never hated it, but the swing your remote controls definitely put the two Wii Zelda's near the bottom of the list for me. I wasn't a fan. Much prefer the button style fighting.

Yeah... have to go into it expecting a completely different game.

BotW is just in another class. Speaking of which, I am still looking for 6 more shrines. I refuse to look online for a map of all the shrines. Want to find them while exploring, myself.

There was a pretty huge difference in the TP and SS controls though.

The TP motion controls were very clearly tacked-on last minute and the sword didn't match your movements 1:1.

With SS, the game was built with motion controls in mind from the ground up, and it benefited greatly from that. I thought the enemy fights were pretty fun with actually having to slash them in certain directions. And the bow and arrow was great.

But I can see how sometimes you just feel like sitting back and relaxing and then they can be a chore.

If they're the same ones I had trouble with...it'll be a while. Honestly not worth it, they are nearly impossible to stumble upon.

Yeah... I'm down to 5, and I have no idea where they are. Only way to find them would be going to every named area and doing giant circles to clear them. Don't think i'm going to do that.

On another note, anyone played Pokemon Unite? I knew nothing about this game, but do enjoy MOBAs. Might as well give it a try.

If I remember correctly, you might not even find them that way. Several are hidden without a shrine quest to guide you.

So far, it's been pretty fun to pick up and play; certainly less stressful than League but I don't think that's saying much.

Interested in seeing how they maintain their service model. Looks like it'll have a ton of cosmetics but I'm wondering how many Pokemon they'll add each season.

I am finding myself wishing there was a third normal move. I used to love League, years back, and definitely don't mind a fun little MOBA on the switch.

Played for about an hour, late last night. Will play some more, today. I've only played about 5 games as Pikachu and looking to try some others.

Just picked up Mario Golf (over Skyward Sword due to my son's input) -- hoping its as fun to play with my son and wife as Mario Party/kart.

ETA: oh man, i just read a review and they all say it sucks. havent opened it yet. maybe i'll take it back to gamestop and get monster hunter: rise.

It's as fun as the first Mario Party for Switch. You'll play it for a week and then forget about it. It'll get better when they put out updates.

I'm winning about 84% of my games with Pikachu, and am enjoying playing him. i will say, I have raged several times because I'm no faster than the largest pokemon in this game. It's kind of ridiculous when a Mochamp can run me down as Pikachu.

Has anyone sent their joycons to Nintendo for joycon drift repair recently? And if so, how long did it take to get them back?

We sent some in early this year and had them back in a couple weeks from date shipped.

Really enjoying Monster Hunter: Rise.

I recently picked up Octopath Traveler again after playing at the start of the pandemic and am loving it. The art, music, progression system, and tight turn-based combat mechanics make this one of the best JRPGs I've played.

Biggest challenge is that JRPGs take me such a long time to finish. If I'm not on vacation, I struggle to find the time to dedicate.

Octopath Traveler was a fantastic game.

So who all is getting Metroid Dread?

I was a huge fan of the Metroid Prime series as a teen, those were my introduction into the series.

Was pretty disappointed when the announcement was made that Dread was releasing before Prime 4.

But then I played Super Metroid on SNES Online and absolutely LOVED it. (My first true Metroidvania experience.) Realized how perfectly they captured that feel and translated it to 3D when they made Prime.

Got hooked and played Metroid Fusion after that, which I still had downloaded on my Wii U but had never played. Not quite as good, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit.

Now I'm chomping at the bit for Dread. Can't wait for next week.

I am SUPER excited for Dread, been eating up all of their marketing since it was announced! I missed out on the special edition, but have a hard copy coming from Amazon on launch day. I've been a fan of the series since the NES days. I even remember an arcade version at Mr. Gatti's growing up!

I'm looking forward to it. Really enjoy metroid.

My son is about to be 6 years old....pretty sure he just will want games for his bday and then Christmas too.

We have Mario; Mario Kart, and FIFA Soccer (that was for me lol).

They (son and daughter) played Minecraft at their cousin's house and really liked it but it seems like it might be a bit intense for his age? Thoughts?

Any other game recommendations? May go ahead and buy both Bday and Xmas as it sounds like this will be a fun year trying to find stuff.....

Minecraft has a creative mode that completely deemphasizes the survival aspects; my nephew in the 5-6 age range plays it without too much issue.

Ok. The 10+ age rating has me "concerned" but that helps ease the concern a bit.

I like to think I am more "conservative" than rating systems but maybe it is in fact ok.

I saw a bunch of clips of Dread last night and it made me fire up the original on an emulator last night. It's a lot easier when you can look up an official map instead of trying to draw your own like I used to do as a kid.

I wish they would do something like the Castlevania series just did and release a game with the GBA versions.
