Sorry if this has already been touched upon, but have a question regarding memory.

My girlfriend has a Switch, and I assumed, like my Xbox, we could just digitally download most games. Well, we're out of memory after just two downloads and already had to uninstall Mario Odyssey to make room for new games. Outside of returning to purchasing physical copies which I'd prefer not to do, can anyone recommend a good external storage (or a memory card) option for the Switch for a couple that would like to download most games?

I don't think there's an external storage solution that I know of. I went ahead and bought a 400gb card and started deleting games that I don't play or sold the physical card.

Personally, after being burned by the Vita debacle, vastly prefer physical media. I have ten games and not a one is digital.

My pros are: usually cheaper, resell potential.

Cons are: potentially losing the game/thieves.

Single player games I usually go physical to resell after I beat. High replay games I go digital.

Physical only, but you're talking to someone who has two 8' tall bookshelves full of nothing but games from Atari to PS2 alone.

We have a mix, but I prefer physical. The Switch games particularly don't take up much real estate.

I have an 11 year old that is saving his money for one. What all is required to buy besides a game and console? Does the dock come with the console? Are cases and extra controllers optional? How many people can play if you buy extra controllers?

I know the console is $300, but if he needs another $200 in add-ons to really make it playable, that would be pretty discouraging to him.

Everything you need is in the box:

Console
Two joycon controllers
Docking station
Power adapter

You will need to spend extra for games, a case, memory card, and a protective screen. Most of these you can get for cheap on Amazon.

He's gonna love it. My 6 year old loves to play mine. His favorite is a Lightning McQueen racing game, but of all the other games I have, his favorites are the original Baseball and Tecmo Bowl on the NES Virtual thing.

Be careful, they are about to release a $200 version of the switch that is handheld only and comes with no dock or joy-cons.

It's a cheaper switch but is only good for handheld gaming. The $300 version of the switch comes with everything he'd need to play handheld or docked. I know some people see the cheaper option and automatically go for it without doing much research.

Can you play all games offline? I'm hoping you don't need a wi-fi connection on some/most games that won't allow you to play in the car.

Pretty much all games are offline. There's a few that require online like Fortnite. Some are online oriented but have an offline option like Splatoon 2 and Rocket League. For the most part the Nintendo Switch is a Gameboy. However, you should get the Nintendo Switch Online subscription that's only $20/year because it backs up saves to the cloud in case your kid's Switch breaks.

Holidays are coming up, look out for bundles! You may be able to get a $300 Switch with a free game.
