Awesome!

Funny thing is, I'd still take Switzer over Garrett. At least switzer had a personality.

Mahomes says he signed a contract that allows team flexibility. The Chiefs will be able to keep a good team around him. "You dont want to be a guy taking all the money."

Dak's agent probably threw up in his mouth.

It would be a big mistake to sign Dak for anything more than making him a Top 10 paid QB, not Top 5, not Top 3, until he earns it. He has a chance to earn it with the next season playing under the tag, even 2021 also playing under the tag again.
Prepare yourself for disappointment. Dak is going to get "Top 5" QB money. Jerry is smart enough to not let Dak reach a second franchise tag season.

Heard there hasn't been a QB that resigned for a multi year deal after being franchise tagged.

Michael Vick and Drew Brees both did.

Brees (Saints tag) and Vick both reached an agreement on multi-year deals before actually playing under the tag. The one time Brees played under the tag (SD), he left after.

I am a big Dak fan. But he has NOT proven to be a top 3 - top 5 QB, and should not be paid as such.

IMO you are thinking about it all wrong. He doesn't get top 3-5 QB money because he's a top 3-5 QB... he gets that money because of all the QBs currently looking for new deals he's most definitely one of the top 3-5.

If he signed a "top 10 money" deal tomorrow, in 1-2 years (after other QBs sign new deals) Dak is making bottom half of the league type money (for QBs). That's just not gonna get it done.

Based on how the league works and how every other year somebody signs "the biggest deal ever", Dak has to get a top dollar deal now or he's falling way behind the curve. If Cowboys are unable to make that work with their cap there are 15+ other teams that will make it happen and not even blink!

Are there 15+ teams that are looking to pay Dak Prescott that kind of money? I don't think so. I generally agree with the principle of what you're saying other than that.

There only has to be 1 other team willing to pay that.

Amazing to me that after almost 20 years of free agency in the NFL, some folks still don't understand how these deals work.

I don't really know how many teams need a quarterback right now, but Dak would be snatched up for top dollar in a heartbeat.

OK I'll play. So we are talking about next offseason or potentially the one after depending on how long Dak allows the franchise tag game to be played. If Dallas is unable / unwilling to pay him, here are the teams that I think would line up to show him the money:

NY Giants
Washington Redskins
NY Jets
NE Patriots
Pittsburgh Steelers
Chicago Bears
Detroit Lions
Minnesota Vikings
Indianapolis Colts
Jacksonville Jaguars
Tennessee Titans
Carolina Panthers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
New Orleans Saints
Denver Broncos
Las Vegas Raiders

Some obvious projections on both sides of the argument. Some of these teams have young QBs that could still develop and some of these teams already have a franchise QB, but they are older and most likely in their final years.

On the flip side, there are teams not on this list who's QB could very quickly fall out of favor (or possible injury) and have them in a Dak bidding war in 1-2 years.

So yeah, I don't think 15 or more teams is hard to fathom. Regardless of the exact number, there are A LOT of teams that would love to have Dak on their roster at his asking price!
Macarthur

Correct, and even if it's just 5 teams that need a QB, the bidding would be intense.

It's a funny tweet. Didn't realize you were going to try and debate logic over it. If you did that over every tweet you'd never do anything else.

I think they get a deal done.

I know 3 facts:

1. The contracts for QBs only get larger with time
2. The Mahomes deal will raise the asking price for all QBs
3. The Dak camp has been more than happy to sit and wait going back to last year.

A deal does not get done.

Shefty just reported that it's going to be very difficult to get a deal done. It seems crazy to me that there could be that much of a disagreement over 4 years vs 5 years. I don't get it.

Assuming we get the dak deal done and have a little cap flexibility, would you rather get Adams on a cowboys friendly deal for a few years or clowney on a one year prove it deal?

I would lean clowney just because of the importance of the position and pairing him with d-law would be lethal

Deal will get done at the 11th hour. Jerry will cave. He always does. Dak will get 95% of asking price and the length of contract he wants

I know Dak will get over $30 Mil this year regardless... but that's gotta be a heckuva crazy situation to be sitting at home right know, knowing the deadline is tomorrow, and that there is a deal on the table that will probably put $50 mil in his back pocket right now.

With the world currently in chaos, that's John Wick level of focus and determination not putting pen to paper.

If we can get Dak's deal done I really want to see us go after Everson Griffen. Clowney doesn't do it for me.

This seems to be following the dez contract timeline from years ago. As last second as it can possibly get. Dak has no reason to budge. Pressure is all on jerry and stephen

Bull crap, Dak has just as much pressure. If he has an Alex Smith injury this season he'll never see that $150+ mil contract and whatever guarantees are in there. It's why players hate the tag... the money is great for 1 year but anything can happen during that year that kills your market value.

Dak is taking just much of a gamble as the Cowboys are.... neither one have flinched yet.
Trucker 96
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's a situation where holding tight could cost Jerry and Stephen a step-up more as salaries continue to escalate, but it could cost Dak everything. Now the former is more likely than the latter, but Dak certainly has the most to lose from waiting. But the odds he'll lose it are certainly less.

Not to mention the whole global pandemic going on right now. Leaving a $50-60 million bag of cash on the table with all of the uncertainty seems crazy to me. Most pundits are predicting a huge hit on the cap for next year. I don't know how that impacts a franchise tag calculation but it certainly will reduce the number of huge deals and landing spots for a big free agent.

I'm normally pro player when it comes to contract negotiations. But only to a point. I believe players that want to win and enjoy the position they are in would take some sort of concession. In Dak's case he also benefits greatly from being the Cowboys' QB. It's not struggling to get endorsements.
Trucker 96
How long do you want to ignore this user?
yeah, I'm a CPA and naturally risk averse financially, so it's kind of hard for me to understand why you wouldn't go ahead and cash in on the generational wealth sitting on the table with all of the uncertainty out there. At this point Jerry and Stephen certainly seem to be willing to wait and see what the cap does, and to your point, the hit could be massive. Revenue is going to take a major gut punch.
Southlake
How long do you want to ignore this user?
What? Absolutely no pressure on Dak. He's gonna make over 30 million and will be set for life.

A bidding war for him would double what the Cowboys want to pay now, especially with the Mahomes money.

Cowboys really should nail him down now.
