I had no idea that there were so many in my town. Neighborhood across the street has them. I won't go there anymore. The others on main roads I need to find out who put them there and whose land it is. Might be sending some letters to county commissioners or city council members in the near future.

So, can anyone post these things? Do you have to be a government entity of some sort?

Because I am starting to have a few business ideas around these that would be lucrative.

I was a victim of a hit and run on the tollway in Houston. I grabbed the license plate and advised the constable. They told me they tracked him by flock within 30 min of the initial hit and run.

That picture is a license plate reader. It's not flock. Cops have been using those for some time. They're just plate scanners. Plus the cops have to actively drive around with those. Flock tracks vehicles and individuals movements as they go about their day to day.

They're going after school districts now. Paying the school districts to allow installation of Flock cameras on school busses.

Prosper, TX has stated (i can't remember where I read/heard this so can't give you a reference) that they are at major/critical intersections and entry points into the town. Having watched these continue to be added, it started as entry points into the town, but has developed into basically all multi lane intersections in Prosper.

Prosper is also "hiding" some of these cameras behind existing street signs. So if you don't know what you are looking for you wouldn't even know they existed in some places.

Red light cameras already got destroyed legally. Same standards should be applied to this nonsense.

I dont care. KYLE Texas has a good amount of flocks and arrests regarding them have been great tools. Multiple burglers, 2 Child Predators, and yesterday 2 guys for Amed Robbery in Kyle this last weekend. I really dont care. The phone I am typing and yall are typing on is being surveillanced.

That's a very good article. It highlights the problems of anonymous AI cameras tracking people, but I think it also demonstrates some reasonableness on part of the police.

Cliffs Notes:
- Automotive journalist is driving a loaner vehicle from Land Rover
- Plate is a New Jersey manufacturer plate, 34 10 DTM, with the 10 in a smaller font
- A plate went missing from another Land Rover on a photoshoot in in LA, NJ mfg plate 34 03 DTM
- The plate was reported lost by the LA Land Rover dealer, but entered into the system as 34 DTM

What went wrong:
The plate was entered into the system wrong, and the Flock system did not read the small number in the middle of the manufacturer plate correctly. It then starts popping up on cameras in Minnesota, where the police think they are not dealing with a lost plate but a stolen car.

What went right
The system did pick up a Land Rover with a very similar tag number, and as a NJ mfg plate it was a very unique plate in both circumstances. AI or not, I can understand how that can warrant further investigation by police. And as stated in the article, it may have gone very differently with another police department.

I think it was very reasonable for police to see that plate and ask questions, but it also demonstrates too much reliance on an automated tracking system when a lost plate turns into a stolen vehicle.

I hate to break this news to you, but it's a very simple process to essentially join this data with FLOCK data.

All cop cars are GPS enbaled. When a license plate is read, it can be joined to the Lat/Long of the cruiser and sent to the DMV DB in order to find out who owns the vehicle and if they have any open warrants against them. At that point it's just an API to send the info over to Flock to join with their records.

They do not need to be Flock cameras to join all this data together.

Now, if these camera's were used to join and pull data from auto insurance agencies so they could pull over an ticket uninsured motorist, I'd be 100% in support. I've been rear ended 2x by uninsured motorists and it makes me insanely mad there isn't a fix for this massive problem.

In my hometown it looks like they are at every main entry and exit to and from the city and near schools with one exception. The local Home Depot has five Flock cameras covering every entrance and the entire parking lot. Sure seems odd.

I don't see how this doesn't go the way of the traffic cam. These aren't for safety or law enforcement, they are for one purpose - surveillance. It is a blatant invasion of privacy.

JFC, I live out in the county and there is one ~200 yards from my house. I assume the neighborhood next to us put that in on purpose for their own HOA use?? It's at the start of the street that goes into their neighborhood.

That's been my argument about what 5G was for. With good service, 4G would allow instantaneous downloads, streaming movies, etc. So why did we go to 5G? Faster service? Nope. More bandwidth. So more data can be transfered and processed.

By citizens? Sure we use more data. But I think it was so companies and the government can get more of our data.

Yeah, I have no idea if this has changed but back during the 5G rollout the phone companies flat out said 5G was inferior because it can't pass through objects very well. Thus, the proliferation of 5G hardware on every f'ing thing just to get decent coverage. Purely for data processing bandwidth to allow for b.s. like this.

Read somewhere... maybe here. Someone saying their HOA was charged less than the cost of the camera for the install. Implication was they're selling the data that collect.

Man, I'll be a hard no if our 7 house neighborhood starts talking about this for us. I'm putting up my own cameras but that's primarily for bears, mountain lions, etc. If you want to try and burgle a house in our area, you are risking your life even being outside at night. And then you have to face my weaponry if you make it past the wildlife.

I do. They aren't connected to the cloud. They're on a segmented network with no internet access, and all AI is run locally. Some people still care about not feeding the data goblins.

You should research that more. Eufy is not good for data privacy. All the thumbnails their system takes are stored on the cloud. Who know what Eufy is mining and tracking from them. Unless you're self hosting, your data is going to the cloud and being resold.
