Lots of "conservatives" on this board squealed about forcing the spending cuts that Biden agreed to by not passing the CRs this past year. Wait until the election is over and then we'll get serious about fiscal discipline they said.

I guess we now have to wait until Trump gets inaugurated to get serious about it?!

Those people are the types that put party over policy and only care about their party being in power, oblivious to the reality that said party does not advocate for the values they claim.

Outgoing Dems and Reps will milk the American People dry, before they leave. I would pay it to get rid of them.

In the future let Congress set up a rule. No spending bills will be introduced between election day and Jan 20.

Do you want a shutdown to be darkening the clouds right as Trump comes in, or do you want him to get into office smoothly and put his people in first, and have some time to put together their own plan ready to go in March? I'm going to bet deals were made to bump the issue back until Trump and his people could have a plan and make deals going forward on budget items to get what he wants as Trump is wont to do to "win" this issue.

Why wasn't DOGE involved in these "deals"? We have the power right now. We don't need to make any deals with the left. This is not a simple CR.

This bill increases the baseline spending from an already jacked up COVID baseline!

Lame duck period of any active legislation after Election Day needs to end. The American people make their choice that day and a prolonged continuation of things as before does not align.

Get changes done where only the equivalent of EOs and immediately sunsetting wtih the new Congress laws and bills pass.

There's no grand conspiracy here. Just a speaker that has the approval from a spender and deal maker. Vivek and Elon were brought on to clean up agency inefficiency. They were not brought on to set house agendas in the 118th congress.

Yes, the clouds of reckless spending and waste should remain until cleared by responsible fiscal measures.

Let gov shut down. Let markets crash. Then rebuild when the smoke clears. Short term pain for long term gain. Otherwise, it will be deeper and longer for future generations.

Your assumption is that Trump wants CR's, which my best guess is completely wrong. With the DOGE appointments it's clear that fiscal responsibility is a priority.

With that supposedly false assumption removed, there is no reason for Johnson to do more CR's which goes completely against the R platform, and by extension the Trump mandate as Musk and Vivek pointed out.

Maybe not. The legal eagles would have to look at rather closely. There may be various work-arounds that make it not particularly useful or effective to do that kind of thing in December. Some form of it needs to.

But people should realize this is not "new boss, same as old." The `bosses' HAVE NOT CHANGED.

Biden/Kamala is still in the White House running things down, the Congress is still Dem Senate Republican House.
