I saw on Twitter several people saying that "no one should have an "assault-style" weapon because the second amendment doesn't actually cover things like that", which has enough logical fallacies in one post to write a doctoral dissertation about.

Enacting stricter gun control laws isn't the answer, and very quickly becomes unconstitutional in my opinion. I believe it was California that just had one of their laws shot down not that long ago.

I spent a lot of time on 4chan during my developmental years, mostly /pol and /b. The things that people said on there before it was as mainstream make the worst TexAgs threads look like a show on PBS.

I absolutely believe someone with lower cognitive function and a mental illness could easily be disillusioned about the world, especially when they're graduating during COVID times. I saw people posting about their plans to do shootings, and they were goaded and encouraged by other users to livestream, post all the gear and plans, and try to beat whatever the latest "high score" was.

From what I'm seeing, the claim of it being racially motivated comes from a handful of Facebook screenshots allegedly belonging to the murderer, courtesy of NYPost. (here) After that, they reference those screenshots in other news outlets such as Fox (like here), but they don't explicitly say it was racially motivated.

The prosecutors chose not to charge it as a hate crime because they decided it wasn't worth the legal battle to open up that door.

The wikipedia page for the attack has nearly 70 articles cited from a variety of outlets. We can talk about the explicit and implicit bias of the news stations, but the story was talked about plenty of times, as opposed to your initial contention of "nuh uh it was memory-holed".

I think it's a grave error to always try and label these type of people as mentally ill. It's a defense mechanism the rest of society uses to try and avoid considering the alternative which is far more terrifying; that among us exist malevolent people who act competently and solely as a means of expressing that malevolence.

The "you have to be mentally ill to do something like this" line of thought is just objectively false.

Too many people on this board use "fascism", "leftism" and "totalitarianism" as synonyms.

A fascist is a specific flavor of totalitarian, but not all totalitarians are fascists. Plenty of far left wing ideologues would qualify as having totalitarian ideology (even if they don't realize or acknowledge it) but to call these people fascists really removes all historical and definitive meaning from the word. The majority of their beliefs apart from the level of state control and censorship they desire simply dont line up with the generally accepted definitions of fascism. Most western left wing totalitarians have diametrically opposed economic and social beliefs when compared to traditional fascism.

Yes it's very blatant and as more evidence continues to come out this was simply a racially motivated attack carried out by a white supremist.
