There's no political points to be scored apart from generic gun control rhetoric, and people are extremely uncomfortable with the idea of blind violence like this. We want there to be a reason (even if it's a terrible, insane one) because if there isnt that's terrifying to us. The idea that anyone can just wake up and decide to kill large numbers of people without providing any reasoning whatsoever is unsettling in the highest degree. It's easier to just ignore and forget.
