Thank you President Jimmy Carter.

For those not old enough to remember this idiot made sure to ban construction of new homes with natural gas. So now there are tens of thousands of all electric homes throughout Texas needlessly. It was later revealed the US had 27 trillion cubic feet if known reserves of natural gas.

Another liberal who was incredibly wrong.
I bought a new house in a new subdivision near Memphis in 2005 with natural gas.

No ban in place then, roughly 30 years after Carter.

Your data point doesn't align with that. Why?
The Nat Gas bill in '78 gave sweeping power to the feds to regulate nat. gas. The idiot believed the lies about known reserves. Due to his legislation 10s of thousands of homes in north Texas alone built in that time frame were barred from installation of nat, gas heating, stoves and ovens.

After it was shown the US, @ that time, was sitting on 27 trillion cubic feet of known reserves of natural gas the regulations changed.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”
Thomas Jefferson, Letter to Edward Carrington, January 16, 1787

Love seeing these people melt down and say we need to move to green energy RIGHT NOW. If we moved to green energy right now, they'd lose their precious social media because they wouldn't be able to charge their precious phones unless the sun was out or the wind was blowing
Silver lining? Might just be worth it.

Hopefully it destroys the whole thing... such an eye sore in a place that already has too many eye sores ... they should ban those things

Those wind turbines must be freezing up.
Actually, they are. From ERCOT "At the same time, we are dealing with higher-than-normal generation outages due to frozen wind turbines and limited natural gas supplies available to generating units. We are asking Texans to take some simple, safe steps to lower their energy use during this time."

ERCOT shows enough capacity at the State level vs. current demand. Wonder if the local blackouts are fallen trees or something else. ERCOT has not requested any rolling blackouts from what I can tell.

Just saw a report that half the wind turbines in West Texas are frozen and offline. The number is expected to increase dramatically.

Maybe put some heat strips on the windmills and a bunch of diesel generators to power them?

4 texts later and several phone calls reporting no power.

I get it...s...y deal and the weather is what it is but don't call me to tell me my lights are on while your map says otherwise and you GD know where we live.

Got this email from CenterPoint less than an hour ago (10:13 pm):
Quote:

In anticipation of high heating demand in response to the extremely cold temperatures, we are asking our Texas customers to temporarily lower their thermostat settings to help conserve natural gas.

We ask you, if possible, to reduce your thermostat setting to 60-65 degrees through Thursday, Feb. 18. This step can help ensure that all customers continue to have gas service to stay safe and warm during the intensely cold weather.

Texas windmills and plants generally don't have winter protection for a storm of this magnitude. Voluntary conservation by a large number of people will be important over the near term.

Outages in Texas are normal this time of year when generation margin can cover expected demand. Outlier storms like this. Even without outages, there'd be a decent chance of rolling blackouts. In general, it makes a ton more sense to take an outage in February to April than May onward.

I'll be interested to see if any of the REPs go out by business because they weren't hedged enough.

So now they're telling us to conserve gas? Either we're using all the electricity or gas. I don't see how it's both.

how about we build an abundance of cheap on demand power and stay warm when it is cold, cool when it is warm, and live like civilized people...

Green energy is a needless expensive boondoggle that literally gets people killed and harms the poor primarily.

March back to the 70's idiotic energy policies if you like, but leave us folks with common sense out of your nonsense. Let the grownups run the country while you imbeciles play your world saving green game of Environmental Dungeons and Dragons.
