Santa Anna is completely out and can't get trucks. Brownwood is 50% maybe with lines at stations. Bangs has gas because they haven't had power. Coleman has fuel at some stations because they didn't have power. Comanche has fuel at the stations that didn't have power. Limestone county is 100% out of fuel.

Not sure if the refinery's have been running or what they have stored but diesel went up $.50 overnight in brownwood

Terrible.

By Monday all gas stations and grocery stores will be back to full steam ahead. Understand folks are out of patience, as am I, but things will look a lot better tomorrow when temps get in the 40's and most of the snow and ice are gone.

Knowing folks at large grocery chains, they are planning on running trucks around the clock to catch up on grocery items.

Yep. Just need to wait a few days and back to normal from that standpoint ...

I am too. Notice that the ERCOT board...decides who gets to join them when one retires/steps down. The nominating committee is literally the current board.

What could possibly go wrong with such an incestuous organization with no liability for failures, and zero oversight?

Yeah, well.....keep in mind that any vacancy has an 85% chance of being filled by Hunter Biden right now.

Now down to 4 rolls of toilet paper.

I recommend conserving. That means don't use as much toilet paper to wipe as you normally would.

Still fine on paper towels and disinfectant wipes. Plenty of hand sanitizer too

Replaced the rolls in both bathrooms. So, while 4 are in reserve, there is technically well, now 5, in existence.

Notice that Peter Crampton, while I am sure a nice, intelligent man (in Germany), is absolutely just an academic type, not someone connected in any real way to the people in/from/of Texas running/working on the electric grid/market. Here is one paper for example (he's the vice chair of ERCOT).

This is a problem, when we have elitist disconnected types making big, long term decisions, based on what amounts to academic thoughts, not discussions with folks on the ground. If you read his other papers/thoughts/topics, clearly he is all-in on climate change and 'green energy.'

This is not a board that is responsive, or inclusive of dissenting opinions on this; further, his conclusions about '50 percent or more on wind energy' are just...wrong. He has had a leadership role at ERCOT, yet the market parameters such as ancillary service requirements...were not adjusted well, and it clearly wasn't fixed since 2011 to account for 'rare' cold weather events. At the very least his resignation should be demanded by all, as well as the chairwoman, and a restructuring of ERCOT leadership is well past due.

But will the market provide the investment incentives for battery storage and improved demand response as the share of renewable resources grows? I believe the answer is yes. With insufficient flexible resources, energy prices will become highly volatile, especially in real time. Flexible batteries, demand response, and gas peakers are well positioned to profit from this volatility, buying when prices are low and selling when prices are high. Scarcity pricinghigh pricing during times of scarcityis essential in strengthening this investment signal.

Today's best-practice market designs likely can support high levels of renewables. Markets in Texas and Europe have run reliably with more than 50 per cent of energy coming from wind. What is required as renewable penetration increases is the routine adjustment of market parameters such as the ancillary services requirements, as well as the steady improvement in the market design to make the system more responsive and flexible. Planning plays a critical role as well in identifying problems early.

One issue that frustrates market success, especially with respect to long-run investment, is an incoherent and unstable climate policy.

If I were Governor I would do what I could to wrest appointment power from the ERCOT board.

And the chances wouldn't be bad of two new members appointed by me coming out of this thread.

Toilet paper update:

Still 3 rolls in reserve. Two currently in use. One in the master bathroom, and one in the guest bathroom.

Power and water still on. Doing good on paper towels, disinfectant wipes, and sanitizer.

The Hubs just got back from our little berg's local grocer. (Needed dog food.) Their trucks did not make it in today. He said it looked like a Soviet style supermarket. No milk, no bread, no soups, empty frozen food aisle, no pasta nor sauce, even rice and beans were largely cleared out.

Went to our Dollar General store, same thing. Went to all three convenience stores, no milk no bread and one no gas.

Actually, reminds me of the problems in the supply chain during and after Harvey. Suppliers based out of the Houston area were unable to resupply the much more inland stores they serviced. If HEB is having problems, you know any independent grocer is without many options.

I have to add one more thing. I'm the one who does 99.9% of the grocery shopping and have for two decades plus. He goes to the store today and first thing he does when he gets home is complain about the prices! My response, "No s***, Sherlock!"

Ultimately, he came home with almond milk (which I have already tried and know for a freakin' fact he will hate) a few of boxes of granola bars, two boxes of cereal*, a bag of tomatoes, a can of mixed nuts and two packages of microwaveable beef tips in gravy which is his personal favorite. But hey, he scored an 8 pack of TP and some canned dog food!

* Time to break out the dry milk I keep on hand and change out every six months because the shelf life is only that long before it can go bad.
