Is Nolan making a parody comedy?

So stating something that is factual somehow means "cannot stand the existence of ..." something.

Got it.

Go ahead and harp on F16 or whatever boogeyman you believe sleeps under your bed; those of use who live in the real world will go right on with viewing the world through known science.

I'll give Nolan the benefit of the doubt. If Page is cast as the diminished shade of Achilles met in the underworld, that could be kind of cool. If we see a 5'1" ~100 lb Page killing grown men during the siege of Troy, that'd be more than a little jarring, especially given that sources generally describe Achilles as tall and strong.

But it's all conjecture at this point. For all we know, Page could be cast as Argos…which would create its own set of questions.

"Stating something is factual…" What does Eliot Page's gender status have to do with the film?

Matt Damon is a bona fide movie star but him playing Odysseus seems like the "safe" but not good choice.

Too familiar with the source material to want to see it done again.

Ellen Page's gender <> gender of character she is apparently portraying.

Since it seems to have been lost on you, the something factual statement refers to the fact that no human being can change their gender simply by stating that they are actually the other gender, or by cutting off the parts that define said gender.

Ellen/Elliot Page... gotta admit I had no idea who this was. I didn't realize this was the actress that played Kitty Pride in the X-Men movies & the architecture student that designed dreams in Inception. I'm going to go back to not remembering who this was because I honestly don't care.

I hope she does a good job in whatever role he has in the movie. Doesn't seem to fit the archetype of Achilles, but Nolan is defenestrating archetypes left & right for his vision. Buckle up!

IHIOGA you don't get to take your tallywhacker with you to the afterlife. It stays in Earth realm and gets eaten by maggots or other insects, science

I agree with this. Regardless of "giving Nolan the benefit of the doubt," there are some head scratchers and likely HUGE misfires on the casting for this movie. I honestly don't feel that Damon fits this role at all on the surface, but perhaps he may surprise. Based on his acting work history though, which I've always liked, this is a very poor fit on the whole. The Ellen Page (and yes, she is a SHE regardless of what a few people's imaginations and strangely militant level of desire want to tell themselves while desperately pounding their chest and shoving it down everyone else's throat) is downright laughable. I seriously can't see a path where it's not a horrific choice for one of the greatest masculine heroes in literature. I liked her in her previously roles before she decided to play make believe with her pronouns and genitals, but there is literally no explanation that fits with her playing Achilles. Don't much like zendaya either, but I'm not a fan of hers regardless, so that gets a pass for me. I feel like there are a couple other head scratchers too, but in general the big ones really put this movie at a pretty poor starting point in the minds of many people. I sure hope that Nolan lives up to the benefit of the doubt label, because right now there is well earned skepticism across the board.

People were a little confused and skeptical, but equating these scenarios is forced at best, silly at worst. They are not even close to similar circumstances. One is a male playing a male character that requires pretty much just charisma and good acting, the other is a petite female playing one of the most masculine and bad ass characters in all of literature. One can fit in the overall mold of the character with great acting, which he accomplished brilliantly; the other will never fit, regardless of how talented the directing and writing might be to make up for her shortcomings as a mythical male figure who defined masculinity, and who is supposed to be bigger than life. She just doesnt have the acting chops for this, nor the *****.

Maybe Nolan's interpretation of the afterlife is that you return to some younger version of yourself, like a child.

Or maybe this thread will devolve into 50 pages of fighting about something that isn't even true. That seems a lot more likely.

Yep, to me she'll always be the guy that kissed Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Inception.

There is always the fallback option of the 1997 TV mini-series if one characters casting is just too much to take

The guy that played Achilles had a great career after booking such a crucial role to the story
