There was a movie.
They called it Superman
It showed his origin.
HTH
Well, tbf, they haven't shown the origin story in EVERY SINGLE MOVIE EVER for Superman like to have done for Batman.

Superman: The Movie. First came out December 1978. It was roughly an hour into the movie before we saw the character in the red, blue and yellow suit. Everything before was his life as an infant on Krypton, his journey to Earth, then through his teen years in Smallville, Kansas and the death of Jonathan Kent.

All the origin story you'll ever need.

My kids were watching the trailer and I was just hearing the audio from it. the latter part of the trailer (after Kryptos part was over) kept playing a high pitched whistling sound and at first it was more krypto, but it also reminded me of Superman's flying sound effects from the old 50s tv show and the Max Fleisher cartoons from the 40s(I had a VHS of these when I was a kid and wore that thing out). Not sure if I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill or not, but seemed like a cool addition to the theme.

Superman '78 has literally the best scene of any Superman movie about the biggest conflict he has, although unfortunately it's with weird already sort of an adult young Superman and not Chris Reeve. After Jonathan dies of a stroke while Clark is out hotdogging it and racing the train, he and his 93 year old mom are at Jonathan's funeral and he says:

"All those things I can do. All those powers. And I couldn't even save him."

They showed a ton of the origin story in MoS as well. The first 20 minutes is all on Krypton (and gorgeous), then they have 3-4 flashbacks of Clark struggling with the powers - suddenly hearing / seeing everything at school; the great school bus scene where he saves everyone; not kicking the **** out of the bullies, and the great reveal with Jonathan with the reveal of the spaceship under the barn floor.
]
I don't know who doesn't get the misty eyes from

Young Clark: "Can't I just keep pretending I'm your son?"
Jonathan: "You are my son."

just had a realization....is this the first movie/installment for this new re-booted DC universe?

or was the first movie for this "The Batman" which would make the HBO penguin show the first 2 installments?

after coming in way late on the MCU and not even bothering with the prior DC stuff.....think i might want to try and get in on this one from the start.....
I think it was mentioned/discussed here that The Batman and this Superman are not in the same universe or something, so they would never interact like in the Justice League or whatever.

Which sucks for me because I LOVE the JL and it'll never go beyond the one movie in the previous iteration. Seeing some of the side characters in this movie does give me hope that we'll see the JL again in this universe.(IMO, I think they picked the wrong GL, but we'll see. I'm not familiar with the Guy Gardner version.)

ETA I was typing mine while TC was answering

I should have clarified that the plan is to still include the Batman in the DCU, it'll just be a different iteration than the Pattinson one. So two Batmen will exist at once but in different universes. There's a Batman/Robin movie planned for the DCU called The Brave and the Bold, which should release in 2027 or 2028.

Exactly. In fact, all three previous cinematic iterations of the character show a younger version of the character learning his powers. Superman: The Movie, Superman Returns, and Man of Steel each have younger actors cast as Clark, and feature scenes or flashbacks specifically devoted to showing him learning/using his powers. Once again, I have no idea what he's talking about.

Now you're just trolling. Seriously.

Superman: The Movie had his origin story.

Man of Steel had his origin story.

Those are movies.

Superman has always seemed to be the most difficult to reboot and get creative with. Batman has been wildly successful because there is so much more latitude in the character, setting, theme, etc. Superman just isn't as flexible.

Do we know how Peacemaker fits in? Obviously not a ton of tie in to the main DCU, but it's Gunn's series and we've got s2 on the way.

Gunn has said pretty much all of it is canon, aside from the Justice League scene at the very end. Assume it's canon unless stated otherwise.

I'm not talking about a few scenes when he was a teenager, I mean literally focusing an entire movie on his youth.

For example, a huge percentage of people who had God powers would NOT use it to selflessly defend others and fight crime. These movies don't come close to explaining how Superman chose the opposite path other than "he's a good guy".

Like have young Superman use his super strength to accidentally kill his best friend. Then avow to never hurt an innocent person again. Something different like that.

This.

Which opens up a whole can of worms, though, because that means that The Suicide Squad is also mostly canon (in Creature Commandos they specifically discuss Rick Flag's Jr. death form that movie, for instance) and so on and so on, if you keep going back from there. Basically, whatever Gunn deems canon from the DCEU is canon, save for anything having to do with Superman, Batman, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman, at least for the time being.

I'd wager the closest you will ever get to something like this is "Smallville". A movie like that would be boring, and it wouldn't be a Superman movie. It would be a young Clark Kent movie.

Good Lord, dude, just stop.

Every single cinematic iteration has addressed this as well.

Superman is good because he was raised by the ultimate, salt-of-the-earth do-gooders, Ma and Pa Kent. This is Superman 101 and has been inherent to the character since his inception.

Otherwise, just go watch Smallville. Because there will never be Superman movie without Superman. That would be a ridiculously stupid business decision.

I hope you don't have to be an uber fan to enjoy this. Y'all are tossing around words and characters I've never heard of. I hate these movies where you have to follow the comics and an animated series, etc in order to follow them. I just want a movie that will entertain me. I'm familiar enough with the character of superman from watching all the other movies.

Gunn has specifically said that this is a standalone movie with no prior knowledge needed. It's the first live-action movie of a whole new universe. You'll be good to go. Regardless, this isn't going to be like the MCU. Everything will connect, but only tangentially, and none will be considered homework to see the next thing.

You want an entire movie to focus on young Clark Kent?

As I stated previously, Superman: The Movie devoted roughly an hour of its 2.5 hour runtime to that segment of his life. Man of Steel was put together in a somewhat less linear fashion, but probably had about half an hour devoted to his youth. Aside from the commonality between the two - Pa Kent's death - the former's best feature was either Clark racing a train or getting ticked off and punting a football to the next State, while the latter had a more impactful sequence where Clark rescues a bus full of kids (including the school bully) from drowning in a lake. Aside from that kind of thing, what you're going to get in a Young Clark Kent movie will not be terribly exciting, and will not be Superman; it would be more like a standard high school angst movie.

Origin stories are necessary for comic characters like this, but don't need to be featured in every movie (here's looking at you Batman). Anyone familiar with the Superman character already knows he hails from the planet Krypton, and was raised by salt-of-the-earth folks in Kansas. We don't need Fast Times at Smallville High.

You bring up an interesting idea though…..think Clark Kent ever killed the poor girl when he lost his virginity?

There's your unique plot angle for a prequel young Clark Kent / FTaRH tie in….

As long as we get a Batman movie where the whole movie is the Wayn's watching a movie in the theatre before deciding to walk home via Crime Alley, but it ends with them entering. Talk about a cliff hanger.

I'm not going to stop because you tell me to. In fact, you saying that make me want to post more. You are not the board police. Stop trying to be.

And the "salt-of-the-earth-do-gooders" is not a sufficient answer. When superman is 1.5 years old and he throws the refrigerator through the ceiling because ma didn't let him have a cookie, then what? Ma sits him down for a little heart-to-heart? Yeah right. I think it's much more likely that superman turns out to be like the super power kid in Spielberg's Twilight Zone: A brat that nobody can stop. It would be cool if the movie explained how that didn't happened.
